Doris Day Song Choice

Talking about and listening to Doris Day, the singer.

Bryan have you considered "Close Your Eyes"?

This song is so top notch. I love the jazz feel to it and Doris Day's voice literrally glides across the notes. I close my eyes and am transported.

I used to have that as the opening song on dorisday.net, Erica, but my service provider said it was using up too much bandwidth for a home page! But I love it - it's one of my favourites. The album she Did with Previn was one of her best, I think.

As I said in my long treatise, elsewhere in this section, ONE doesn't do it. If I could only have ONE RECORDING by Doris, FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, it would have to be the 45 rpm single released in 1952: one side was BEWITCHED, BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED (the hit), but the B side, has Doris singing in the sweetest voice of all time, IMAGINATION.

by the way..guess I am stupid, but I can't figure out how to listen to these songs.

Mike, go here:

http://www.dorisday.net/song-choice/song-choice.html

and click on the song you want to hear - you have to allow pop-ups from this site to hear songs so make sure they aren't blocked as that is how the songs play.

Ditto with this page:

Not these particular songs, Mike, they are converted to Flash to reduce the size to play online. But you could record them as they play if you have some software to do it.

Well, I use Total Recorder, which you have to pay for but there are many free recorders on Google - do a search.

I just searched for 'free website music recorder' and found a few:

To record audio I can think of two programs:

Download the movie file. Open VLC (videolan.org) File - Streaming/Exporting Wizard - Transcode/Save to file - Select a stream (choose the movie file you wish to extract the audio from) - Check mark for Audio - Transcode audio (pick codec and bitrate), choose encapsulation format, the final format for your audio file. And you're done. No need to download additional software.

Another great piece of software, open source, so free, is Audacity, free download for Windows, MacOSX and other operating systems at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net

I wonder how many people are familiar with this song by Doris. She recorded it around the same time she recorded A GUY IS A GUY. Unfortunately, I think it was only popular IN MY HOUSE. And since it was on a 78 rpm recording, we wore it out and had to replace it 5 x!!!

A LITTLE KISS GOODNIGHT was a 1952 single record. It is not on any albums except the Baer Family Sets.
STARDUST was a radio transcription for Doris' 1952 radio show. It was never released on an album or as a single. HOWEVER....there are so many hundreds of DD compilations out there both could be on one of those.

Has Doris recorded any songs from West Side Story? It would be wonderful to hear her sing "Tonight" or "A Time For Us". Her voice is magic.

I have been searching to see if Doris recorded, "My Funny Valentine". No luck. I think it would be perfect for her. Doris has so much tenderness and sincerity in her voice that this song requires. If there is a chance that it is on one of her albums, please let me know.

I just heard Doris sing The Man Who Invented Love that was edited from The Pyjama Game but is on the dvd edition. What a great song! I loved watching her sing this with such a quiet and tender tone.

Let's hope that Doris will release an album of unreleased songs like Barbra Striesand did this month. Wouldn't this be a nice surprise?

I also understand that both Doris' Christmas cd's are being re-released either in October or November.

Passing time in a record shop / store today after a dental appointment and waiting on a train - saw a really cheap 3 CD set of Doris - most I have but there were a few I did not recognise so I bought it and am so glad I did.

Great to find rare recordings [for me] - such as Who Who who; Take me in your arms [not hold me...]; a jazzy - when the red red robin...; Today will be yesterday tomorrow; and a gem - Nothing in the World - which by the sound of it was recorded in my favourite Doris recording period - mid to late 1950s.

Also, there was a different version of Tunnel of Love - a much jazzier version [than in the film] which I loved too and of course, [for me] the definitive version of The Party's Over- now that is song styling perfection!

What a wonderful find!

Congratulations!

I would love to know the name of the 3CD DD set as well.

There is a really great store located in Toronto called Song and Script that have an expert team that find rare recordings. They located the Doris Day song book for me.

Guys - this particular 3 CD collection is called - "Doris Day 75 [Classic Hits]" - the cover pic is b&w of Doris close up around the April in Paris Time - Gertrude Wheeler hair starting to grow [lol] - wearing some kind of coat/top dress/ - it is very close up - with a fur collar.

The CD was released in 2011 - by Go Entertainment Group Ltd.

Hope this helps.
