I was thinking it would be good to have a regular song spot. You can leave it playing in the background while you read or post.
I've noted the songs people have mentioned and I'll try to do as many as I can.

Well, thank you, Toni!

As the first person to respond, you can choose the next one.

I wonder what it will be.......??? It's a hard task to choose one Doris Day song - take your time...

Yikes !! How do you choose one Doris Day song ???

I think I'll give you three or four and you make the choice ! I want to put - Let It Ring - 1st because I really like it and I don't think a lot of people are familiar with it. Then I will give you --- The Party's Over -- Mood Indigo -- and Again.

Today, those are my top 4 --- but my favorites change constantly !!

Thank-you --- wish I could have been more decisive !

Thanks Bryan.

Two beautiful classics, sung flawlessly. As usual.

If you can find and post "I'll Be Around", it would be most appreciated.

Very nice - I hadn't heard that song for a long time. She sure was smooth - just glides along in that song.

Bryan - I think I would like my song to be Let it Ring. Just because some people might not be familiar with it.

Thanks - Toni

The Sound of Doris Day

UNREAD_POSTby Sheila » Sat Jul 21, 2007 10:32 am

I’m still wearing my “L” plates regarding Doris’ songs however, I do like Every Where You Go, so far it's one of my favourite songs. I love the way Doris uses her voice, she’s an incredible artist at work, simply amazing!

Can anyone advise me how to put songs on the forum please? I’ve tried but I can’t figure it out!

Her version of "We Kiss in a Shadow" is perfection. This is a lovely, understated performance that really demonstrates her gift for singing to one person. I enjoy the fact that there is no intrusive background chorus breaking into the midsection or singing behind her.

You can't I'm afraid Sheila - but you can nominate one.

I agree with you about "We Kiss in a Shadow" being perfection, John. I don't remember hearing it before - beautifully done.

Here's "Let it Ring":

If you can find and post "I'll Be Around", it would be most appreciated.

Hi Joe, the song is up there - never heard this one before - beautifully sung - not too sure about the lyrics - sounds like an abusive relationship - I'll be around no matter what you do/how you hurt me. How do you see it?

"Let it Ring" Wow, that's one sexy song! How come I never heard of it before? Thanks for making it available. I always loved "Again" for the same reason. One reviewer called it a postcoital song. I kid you not.

"I'll Be Around"

UNREAD_POSTby joe t. » Tue Jul 24, 2007 9:50 pm

That recording sounds as good now as it has sounded in my head for many years. I didn't remember the male chorus backing up Doris' vocal but I did remember how clear, sweet and plaintive her voice sounded.

At the time "I'll Be Around" was released, I was just a small squirt who had my first crush on an "older female" who had given me some attention. Then I found out she had a boyfriend and my puppy love was crushed. So I related, even at that tender age, to the lyrics of this song. I couldn't imagine why Doris' recording was not at #1 on the Hit Parade!

So, Bryan, if I can impose on your good graces one more time, I would like to request another ballad from around the same time period and another one that I haven't heard in a long, long time, "Darn That Dream".

Thanks so much for providing these great recordings of our favorite gal.

Nice story, Joe - I think we've all been there, in one way or another! Makes sense why the song meant something to you.

Nice choice of song too, "Darn That Dream", hadn't really listen to it before. Of course once you start listening to 'that voice', it's hard to stop so I found myself posting some other tracks I like as well as one mentioned ("Again"):
"You're Good for Me"
"When I'm Not Near the Boy I Love"
"Ridin' High"
"Sorry"

http://www.dorisday.net/song-choice/song-choice.html

I've said it before (and I'll say it again!) the clarity of Doris' voice always amazes me. I play a lot of music but as soon as I play any of hers, I notice the difference straight away - her voice is as clear as a bell (?) - not to mention any of the other obvious qualities.

Maybe we can eventually come up with the forum's top 20.

Oh, thank you, Velda!

Why don't you choose one? - I'm just going to do the one John asked for, sneak a couple of my own favourites in and then leave it for a few days (going off to a music festival on Friday morning - www.womad.org - assuming it isn't under water by then).
