Well at least you are trying, Mike, and I appreciate that. I'll try and help you when I have some time.

I liked Denis Lor (never heard of her before), Bobby Vinton, Nat King Cole but really thought Doris' version was the best so far.

Did you see my YouTube (Hammer Horror) version: :)

Here we go again...Thanks to Bryan supplying the links needed to post.

WE KISS IN A SHADOW (from THE KING AND I):

Of course, one can always check out the broadway cast and movie soundtrack versions, but there are much better ones.

In the 1950's, when the show opened on Broadway, there were two versions vying for top ten contention, Perry Como and Doris were neck and neck. Here in Baltimore, MD, on Radio WFBR, the local deejays were so indecisive that they played one half by Perry and the other half by Doris, and then reverse it the next time. Here are these two versions:

OUR DORIS:
http://www.box.net/shared/zr7d1n8b2s

AND THEN PERRY COMO:
http://www.box.net/shared/fczxi4p9vt

Some other versions of note:

PEABO BRYSON & LEA SALONGA (a duet, which is how it was done on Broadway):
http://www.box.net/shared/ggbi0hyrcl

BARBRA STREISAND'S VESION (Unfortunately, Barbra has a problem sticking to one song..yeah, right..I am not a Streisand fan..sorry...she is way too "foo foo" for me!)
http://www.box.net/shared/lteu5qhbsx

And now, we have the version that I like best. Believe it or not, it is the first time in my whole life that I have EVER liked someone else's version of a song, especially when Doris had recorded it. This beautiful piece of pure ecstacy is by VIC DAMONE:

Back again, with more! Hope you folks are enjoying all this!!!

Let's stay with THE KING AND I FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF COVERS, AND TRY THAT BEAUTIFUL SONG WE ALL KNOW AS "I HAVE DREAMED "

This time, let's start with the VERY best...none other than THE DEFINITIVE VERSION BY DORIS DAY:
http://www.box.net/shared/5jfjhpnka1

Now let's try a totally different interpretation, from BOBBY DARIN:
http://www.box.net/shared/j2s6rihnb4

And if you like group interpretations, here is a really nice one by THE LETTERMEN:
http://www.box.net/shared/y3mnyrlply

And, of course, we can always listen to one from The Standard King, Ole Blue Eyes himself, FRANK SINATRA:
http://www.box.net/shared/pie93cx8jm

BUT, second to the version by Doris, I actually prefer this one by MATT MONROE:

MORE...MORE....MORE....

This time around, let's look at an ELVIS PRESLEY hit and see how a few other people treated it...

"(NOW AND THEN, THERE'S) A FOOL SUCH AS I"

THE TOP OF THE CHARTS VERSION, OF COURSE, WAS BY "THE KING" HIMSELF, ELVIS:
http://www.box.net/shared/z0pc1yesy0

Also in the top 20 at the time, was this version (and a great one) by JO STAFFORD:
http://www.box.net/shared/3h1m21umjz

Also vying for top honors (but at the bottom of the top 20), was this version by TOMMY EDWARDS:
http://www.box.net/shared/jgqcylgrxd

Not to be outdone by all the others, on the COUNTRY charts, we had this version by JIM REEVES:
http://www.box.net/shared/l9qv5gfjn5

But once DORIS DAY got ahold of the song...all bets are lost. This is THE BEST VERSION:

In the crossover field (country/pop), no one did it better (after Elvis) than Brenda Lee. She had LOTS of hits.
One of her biggest was "LOSING YOU"

THE VERSION BY BRENDA LEE:

The King, ELVIS PRESLEY, had another gigantic hit in:

"I CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU"

The version by ELVIS PRESLEY:

NOW, how about that "current" singing rage, CELINE DION (I call her a "screamer")

Smashing concert records all over the world, here is the version by MICHAEL BUBLE':

'SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY" , of course, BELONGS to Doris Day as vocalist with Les Brown and his Band of Renown, circa 1945.

HERE IS THAT "DEFINITIVE" (AND YET TO BE BEATEN) VERSION:
http://www.box.net/shared/8iu2mxzbgv

Are you guys aware of the fact that Doris actually RE-RECORDED this song, MANY TIMES. I do not have ALL of the covers she did of her own hit, but I have at last one other.

Another version by Doris:
http://www.box.net/shared/em8sa8tin2

Of course, OTHER artists had to have a piece of the pie...and here are a few (of the more than 70 cover versions available):

DINAH SHORE: http://www.box.net/shared/mx8p68gpm9

KAY STARR: http://www.box.net/shared/37375ojbs9

TONY BENNETT; http://www.box.net/shared/qrmmkmlu9v

THE AMES BROTHERS WITH LES BROWN: (this version hit the top 20 in the late 50's):

I do love the Andrews Sisters version of "Me Too" as well though - I imagine that came out first? It's such a fun upbeat song from both them and Doris - and quite different.

Thanks for all of those Mike - I'm waiting to find time to listen!

"THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE"

This is one I WISH Doris had recorded. Alas, she did not. Here are a couple versions. Which do you like the best???

ROBERTA FLACK.....This was the big hit
http://www.box.net/shared/u45nsq7j8v

CELINE DION.........She wasn't screaming on this one
http://www.box.net/shared/m1yliv2n8f

DINAH SHORE......interesting story behind this one. Just like Doris had a lost album which was found by her son in storage and later released, this song by Dinah was in a collection never released by capitol records, until 2008..I think it is her best album, and she does a respectable job on this song
http://www.box.net/shared/it35pzsvsh

GEORGE MICHAEL....Not the big hit, but my personal favorite version

This will get you. I really don't see how ANYONE could POSSIBLY compete with Ms Day on her biggest hit of the early 50's...but they all certainly tried.

"SECRET LOVE" from CALAMITY JANE

THE ONLY VERSION THERE SHOULD BE, BY DORIS, OF COURSE:
http://www.box.net/shared/x8pd6y4t8q

GEORGE MICHAEL (you won't believe this!!!):
http://www.box.net/shared/y3dll14uba

CONNIE FRANCIS (she tried...)
http://www.box.net/shared/ob2mghjf02

PAT BOONE (he seemed to cover a lot of Doris' songs. Wonder how they would have sounded together?)
http://www.box.net/shared/g8n7548rsy

SLIM WHITMAN (the inevitable country version/ and it got popular, too!!!):

One of the most beautiful songs Doris ever recorded, from her SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY lp,

"THE MORE I SEE YOU"

She had sung this song when she was singing with the Les Brown Band, but it never sounded as good as it did when she recorded it for the LP years later. Give a listen:

DORIS DAY: http://www.box.net/shared/m3heiqj3sl

This next one is the one that was the top of the charts hit in the 1940's by none other than very famous American Singer,
DICK HAYMES: http://www.box.net/shared/81g9yuyblt

Some of the other versions, which are really good:

BOBBY DARIN: http://www.box.net/shared/vmd2hzvjle

MICHAEL BUBLE': http://www.box.net/shared/e9lop01knc

ANDY WILLIAMS: http://www.box.net/shared/guqn518eoz (The fact that he and Doris were hometown friends and stayed close friends all their lives makes me wonder why they never recorded together..they were even on the same label and it could have happened!!!)

JACK JONES: http://www.box.net/shared/hltee43q87 (one of my personally favorite singers. You may remember him from that comedy show, THE LOVE BOAT (he sang the voiceover theme song)

VIC DAMONE: http://www.box.net/shared/t8mzobnxgn (VERY SMOOTH VERSION. This was Frank Sinatra's favorite male singer..Sinatra called him "the singer's singer". Doris was his favorite female.)

ONE OF DORIS' FIRST BIG HITS. ON THIS SONG, SHE WAS COMPETING WITH THE VERSION BY
VIC DAMONE. BOTH VERSIONS MADE IT TO THE TOP TEN, BUT DORIS HAD THE MILLION SELLER.

I reckon George Michael is a closet Doris Day fan - he also mentions her in another song - (let the sun come out like Doris Day or something) can't remember it as I'm listening to him singing Secret Love - not too bad - but very middle of the road - I heard a great up-tempo version some time ago but didn't catch the group's name.

Uh, yes, Doris definetly wins this round. Rosemary Clooney and Dinah Shore seem to rush through the song and it's up beat, while Doris' is slow and sultry (if that's the right word). :?

And Doris' phrasing is so much better. I love the part where she belt's "Now that train is calling, can't you hear it calling, whoo wee". She can make 'whoo wee' as a train whistle belivable.

I agree re-Blues in the Night - although I love Rosemary too [a fellow Cincinnatti girl]! I never quite warmed to Dinah Shore's voice, although she aged wonderfully and did a sterling job on her TV show.

Doris Day:
