I think we can securily say that not always the "best" wins at the Academy Awards ... and this (me) is a huge "Oscar"-Fan talking
Didn't know there was talk about a remake of Calamity Jane - jeeeezzz I definitely can't see anybody in that role but Doris ... I mean - who is there today who could do that role :?:

If there are plans to make a remake of "Calamity Jane", well I'm sure it would be a flop, there is nobody else how can act and sings like Doris Day !!!!

It wouldn't work - that was a different time - when the world was young - it would just be a reproduction - like a copy of a famous painting - a fake! :D

Who could replace Doris anyway? Or any of the others.

Maybe they plan a stage play???? Equally horrid I guess (without Doris I mean) but ... there is a lot of that around nowadays of Musical remakes on the stage .. SOUND OF MUSIC, MARY POPPINS, Thouroghly Modern Millie .. all that stuff ...
I don't think there is an audience for a movie - all of us who would like that sort of thing - won't go see it cause its without Doris   :D They better not!!!!

oh I didn't know about that ... maybe I COULD see it on the stage.... I guess - but I bet its no comparison - I can't even see Mary Poppins on stage without Julie Andrews - so there is no way I could see CJ without Doris :D

I just saw Calamity Jane for the first time. Not only it's now my favorite Doris Day movie, but my favorite movie!!
This really shows her true acting ability, and what a face! I enjoyed hearing how differently she can sing when in this roll. Then later, back to her glamorous Doris Day style.
I couldn't help but cry at the end of the movie, I was so touched by her. And "Secret Love," what a beautiful song.
I'll have to buy the DVD now!

I watched Calamity Jane for the first time last night. I LOVED IT!! I'm not a fan of westerns, so I didn't think it would be my favorite, but it really is one of my favorites! Doris played the part of Calamity very well....my favorite songs would have to be "I Can Do Without You", "The Windy City", "Secret Love", "The Deadwood Stage".....actually, I love them all! The scene on the log, when Calamity and Bill are sitting on the log and kiss, was my favorite scene. I thought Danny was a jerk, does anyone agree? Bill and Calam had so much chemistry.

I'm not a fan of westerns either, but because I love "Annie Get Your Gun," I had a feeling I would like this one too. Of course Doris playing the lead, made the movie better than ever! Just wonderful!!!

If there is a re make of Calamity Jane, let's boycott the re make!! We need to be stick by our wonderful Doris Day, and we need to help the re make to be a flop! I'm going to buy the DVD, not only because I love Doris, but to show support. The Academy Awards often is unfair, and it's all politics!!

For me, Calamity Jane rates as about one of the best musical films of them all (and the Fred Astaire films are difficult to beat), and my favourite Doris Day film. Doris Day's feisty nature is captured here to perfection, although she is *tamed* in the end. A HAPPY film with great songs.

It's a great film and shows what a versatile actress she was that she could also make such hits as "Love Me or Leave Me", "Teacher's Pet" and "Pillow Talk", to name just a few.

Having a bit of fun with "Secret Love": :)

Who doesn't love Calamity Jane :D My papa used to love this movie, can you believe it was actually me that got him into this movie when I got the video a few years ago, yeah it was a little before DVD's came out  Man Doris Day sure did have a lot of energy. I wish I had that kind of energy 8) Man she always makes you laugh without even trying. It seems to be so effortless  And of course some of the greatest songs, "Black hills of Dakota" and "Secret Love" She looked beautiful in those scenes.....But then again, when doesn't she look beautiful :D

ONE MORE TIME....we have to doff our hats to our British Doris fans. They named this movie THEIR ALL TIME FAVORITE MUSICAL. Just shows the good taste they have. In America, it is not even on the list of the Top 100. (No Doris film is...and is anyone surprised????)

Well let's put it this way. After seeing that Buffy episode (yes there was an episode of Buffy where they all broke into song :? ) and the film 8 mile (with Eminem) getting higher than Calamity Jane in the top 100, I stopped paying any attention to it  I mean how in gods name they can call one Buffy episode a musical is beyond me...And 8 mile???? Um....*scratches head*

Ad you're welcome. I was gonna say you'll find more in my PB but I see you've already found them :D Capped them myself :D

Actually I just capped as I watched :D I ripped the DVD on my computer harddrive and used Nero showtime to watch the movie, I didn't have to keep pausing to cap it. With Nero showtime you can just keep your finger on the "alt" button and then press "c" to capture it :D

And you're welcome. They're there for anybody who wants them so feel free to help yourselves ;)

I'll get round to capping some of her other movies eventually ;)

I've got Nero - I'll give it a try - but if you feel like doing another it would be nice to have some captures from Pillow Talk - you notice expressions that you don't remember seeing as it all goes by so quickly, as I noticed with Calamity Jane. I've used one of your screen captures for a new banner - so thanks for that.

It's quite easy, before you start the movie click on the little spanner thing to take you into the bit where you can choose what file to download it into first. That way it's easy to find and keeps it nice and tidy :D

Pillowtalk. Okay will do :D

Yes I noticed, I almost fell off my chair when I saw it  Man she looks so funny sometimes :P

EDIT: It's not a spanner, it's a hammer
