I love this one, Puck - do you have any details about when it was taken, the occasion, etc? And do you have a larger version?

I believe that photo was taken when she was doing the movie, It Happened to Jane.

Thanks Dominique, I did think it might be (hair style) - or Teacher's Pet at first glance - so it must have been 1958-59.

I also think it was during "It Happened to Jane", but I am curious where this picture was taken, it looks like New York ? does anyone know.

I get a strange feeling looking at that photo - Doris with so much unknown ahead of her that we now know about. She's happy now but she's been through a lot (like all of us). It's a good thing we can't see the future - it would scare us to death!

The other thing I like about it is that it is a 'real' photo' and not a film or publicity photo.

Would love to make a banner of the original.

I agree Bryan - but even by this time; Doris had been through so much and survived!

I think she herself would say the knocks helped shape her; strengthen her and help with each [future] set back and tragedy.

I purchased a dvd [copy] of a 1975-76 Tonight Show appearance - very good - Doris is wearing a long salmon pink dress with short balero overcoat- hair reasonably long - tied back in a ponytail with a salmon coloured ribbon.

What makes this even better is that the film critic Rex Reed is the 2nd guest [Johny Carson] is host- Rex waxes lyrical about Doris; her life; her skills at survival; her careers; her book etc- at one stage he even comments that it sounds as if he is promoting her book - however, he urges everyone to read it as a lesson in survival- Doris watches on as he talks and it is a very nice interview and Miss Day looks superb.

True, Jas - and obviously we all think she is a very special person (as we all are in our own way) but part of me feels sad that she hasn't ended up with that family life she always wanted - but she doesn't complain. She's stayed true to herself and followed her philosophy of 'pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again'. I admire that and agree with it. We're dealt certain cards in life and you have to play them as best you can and, as she also sung, "Life is just a bowl of cherries, so live and laugh all it all"!

Miss Day has never looked back, only forward, she has learned from its experiences, and is therefore only grow, and it came out much stronger. I have great admiration for her guts and a lot to learn from her. Because tomorrow is more important than yesterday, yesterday was, you can only learn from it and grow despite the bitter aftertaste.
I always say just keep on breathing, just go, learning and growth, make the best of it.
