Speaking of Doris's hats....a long time friend and fan from Australia, Joan Barr, would bring sometimes a dozen hats that she made for Doris when she would visit Doris every few years. They were all very colorful and fun and Doris loved them. Joan sewed beautifully and it was always fun to see what Joan would bring for Doris.

Everyone does not look good in a hat, but Doris sure does...she has a flair for them and wears them beautifully.

This is a photo that shows you exactly what Mary Anne is talking about. The photo was taken in August of 1973 in Mary Anne and her roommate's apartment, which was right next door to Alma. They kept an eye on Alma for Doris and Mary Anne worked for Doris also.

Doris was having fun trying on Joan Barr's hat some of which you can see, I hope, in the back of the photo next to Doris. I believe there is one black hat with red dots and a red ribbon that you may have seen in photos of Doris at Lion County back in the 70s. I have those also.

Joan Barr, from Australia, was a wonderful hat maker and sent Doris hats quite often. She was also a favorite of all Doris' fans and often visited Doris in both Beverly Hills and Carmel.

This is a favorite photo of all the "in person" photos in my collection.
