Is There An Exact Account of How Many Songs DD Recorded ?

One reads and hears all sorts of high numbers. She did record extensively.
Is there an exact or at least a rough estimate ?
Thanks.

IF YOU SAY "RECORDED"....that takes into account only those songs actually put on acetate. I would give a rough estimate of approximately 700 songs. If you add to that the songs she sang with Les Brown's Band, add another 75-100. Add to that the songs NOT RECORDED but sung on various radio shows from Bob Hope to Your Hit Parade to all the others on which she appeared in the late 40's, plus her own radio show (52 and 53), plus tv shows, etc...and I would say your rough estimate is now a minimum of 1000. Not bad!!!

As part of the Definitive Doris Day Discography I am currently putting together, I devoted a chapter on The Bear Family Records of Germany Boxed Sets (1992-1997). My analysis showed the commercial releases on Columbia Records totaled 512 Doris Day tracks released in single and album formats, and 64 previously unreleased tracks, for a grand total of 576 Doris Day recorded songs. When you add the 40 commercial tracks with Les Brown and Doris Day, the total of commercially released recordings is 616. Of course the hundreds of other tracks sung by Doris Day will add to that figure.
Happy Days,

Hi,

I am new to this site and this is my first post. Yay! :)

I have finally managed to get my hands on the fourth Bear Family set; Move Over Darling. I purchased the first three sets years ago, but missed out on the last one. Then it got discontinued, and the price went way up... so it's been a long search, but I was able to find a brand new set for a very fair price, considering. Just under $200. I've seen the set priced anywhere from $300 to $600, so I think I did good. ;)

Aside from the Bear Family sets, I own a number of Doris CDs, maybe I'll post a pic of my collection at some point? She's been one of my all-time favorite singer/actress since I was a child. I still have to get a few missing CDs for my collection; Lost Treasures with Les Brown, and the two Doris Day (radio) Show discs... The Duet and Annie Get Your Gun albums are also on my want-list and, even though those recordings are included in the Bear set, I will probably be getting them separately anyway. LOL!

This brings me to my question, I am trying to figure out how many ''exclusive'' tracks there are on the Bear sets. Now, texas gonzalo (can I call you texas? :P) you mention that there are 64 previously unreleased tracks. I guess what I would like to find out is, how many tracks are only available on CD with the Bear sets.

Hello chuckscherubs,

Welcome on this great forum. The exact amount of songs sung by Doris isn't known exactly. On http://www.dorisday.net/discography/ Texas gives a little insight in the amount of songs recorded with Doris.

The Bear Family only list the Columbia songs Doris recorded after her Les Brown period.
TBF only included the Last/Love album as being not a Columbia album but there are also: The radio tracks Doris recorded in 1952 with Van Alexander and The Page Cavenaugh Trio, The Best Friends album from 2011 and the songs mentioned on Movies, Music & Memories. Songs sung on her two television specials aren't included either. Probably there are some gems in the Columbia vaults too, TBF gives a few missing tracks.

And don't forget the songs, not officially recorded on LP, but sung on radio:
* with Les Brown: Victory Parade Of Spotlight Bands, One Night Stand, Fitch Bandwagon, The Bob Hope Show
* with Frank Sinatra: Your Hit Parade
* guest star shows: The Jack Kirkwood Show, Sweeny and March, Rudy Vallee, Kraft Music Hall, Guest Star
* The Doris Day radio Show
* The Doris Day television Show
( http://www.dorisday.net/forum/viewtopic ... 4&start=50 ) for live music.

Just to name a few places where to find song by Doris.
Hope this may be a little help for you

P
