Both pictures were taken on a trip to Carmel/Monterey in September of 1953. The first one was taken in Monterey, near California's First Theatre (where she gave a little mini spontaneous performance) at Fisherman's Wharf. The second was in Del Monte (Monterey) at the Pebble Beach Golf Club
Howard, thanks for sharing that beautiful picture. They both look fabulous, and look what a small waist line Doris has. And I am told even to this day she still has her figure. Has her wine and ice cream in moderation.
Daisy...those last pics with Doris in the little black dress seem to be from the 1956 Photoplay awards (think the video of this is on the forum somewhere) - so yes, just prior to Teacher's Pet time. She looked fabulous here - prob at her peak.
Thanks Jas, You and Dorine, and Howard, are all good at pinpointing the date and places pictures are from. I notice one that Peter posted with Kirk Douglas. She only made the one picture with him. "Young Man With A Horn." From what I have read they did not have that good of a rapport with each other, but it looks like in this photo they are getting along pretty well.
Daisy - the relationship with Kirk and Doris truly intrigues me.
My view is that they got along very well on Young Man and after- he was a guest on Doris' radio show, and you can see from the pic above they had chemistry and liked each other. They also socialised quite a bit in a group in the 1950s - maybe Kirk held Doris indirectly to blame for getting involved with Rosenthal and losing money -
If you read her book he seems quite bitter and that is the one thing [in my opinion] that Doris did wrongly in her book - it seems [to me] that Hotch let her know what Kirk had said about her and then as a foot note she adds the bit about Kirk being wrapped up in himself - this seems to have been made in response to his comments that he didn't have the remotest idea who Doris was (despite socialising for years with her) - strange - wonder if we will ever know all about this complex relationship? I think Doris should not have responded to this and let her comments re- Kirk/Young Man stand as stated earlier in the book.
