Ralph

I agree with you on Superstition and Angel. Naturally, the two songs that have never been released on any record or CD, Naturally.

I also agree that Doris could sing absolutely anything and make it sound good to great; even things like purple cow.

Bryan, One of the nice things about the changes each season is the show did change. In some episodes of season 1, grandpa and the kids were featured but in others they were more in the background and Doris took center stage. In seasons 2 and 3 there were episodes where it was just the office gang so...

Bryan, Since you've got season 1, watch the episode titled the friend. For mainstream tv in 1968 it handles integration rather well. Much better than Bewitched did a few years later in one of Eliz M's reputed favorite episodes. Season 1 is a simple rural comedy in the Mayberry vein and like that sho...

It's been years since I've seen the shows. I'm sure I missed some when they were first run and the few reruns in syndication were never at a time when I could watch consistently. However, the format changes really don't bother me. Life goes on, kids grow up, go away to school. People retire, sell th...

Peter, Thanks. I'll be double checking to see what I'm missing. Were the tracks from the Best Friends TV show or the specials released in CD form in Europe? Those would be the 1984/85 list. As I recall, the series started in production in June/July 1985. Lauren Any chance you know where the BF songs...

Please share what you find out. Is there a chance you are referring to "The Love Album," which was done soon after the Columbia era ended. I'm not sure the Columbia contract was cancelled so much as just ending after 20 years. I remember hearing something about a lifetime contract but I think there ...

We'll probably have to disagree on that. We live in a color world. People who burst with life like Doris really benefit from being seen in color whether on screen or in stills. Maybe because other than 4 or 5 films, everything Day did was in color, it just jars me to see her onscreen in B/W. While I...

Black and white cost a lot less than color. Day was one of the first stars to break out of the studio system and have "her" own production company. That meant that someone in "her" organization apportioned the money. Less money on film, personnel and equipment meant more money for someone. I suspect...

Ralph EXACTLY. They have a precedent to allow accommodations due to age or inability to travel. Ms. Day could then control the situation within her comfort zone and it could be done in an exceptionally classy manner befitting both Day and the Awards organization. But for that to happen, both have to...

The sad part is that if any organization really wanted to honor Ms. Day and would work with her to allow her to accept without a personal appearance, she might consider it. She won't leave the kids and has always disliked being on display in large auditoriums. She still does interviews on topics of ...

Maybe some comfort can be taken by the fact that most of the snickerers have passed deservedly into obscurity while Doris still sells CDs and DVDs in quite respectable numbers. The Hollywood power brokers that continue to ignore Doris simply can't forgive her for being ever popular with the 'little ...

Ray, What's the cover date on that issue of Bark? I just saw a lone copy of Bark labeled Winter but it had nothing from/about DD in it that I could find. Maybe my store had an old copy. Page number? While I might have missed a short article, I looked through the table of contents and thumbed most of...

Yes it would be way cool for Doris to be presented with a Grammy for this album, especially as it was likely her last album and she supposedly chose the songs herself. Do they even have Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Grammys? Maybe it's time they did! Let's hope the Grammy folks show more class ...

Perfect Valentines Day Gift

The USA Release of Doris's last album, THE LOVE ALBUM was today, February 14, 2006. Perfect timing. What better gift for the one you love than this album? After all, if Doris has a secret to her success, it's her capacity to love all living things. Thanks to whoever on the forum mentioned that this ...

Babs is one of the baby boomer generation who would probably have difficulty admitting that D not only had talent but had talent superior to her own. We all have our likes and dislikes with respect to singers. Babs does have a talented, trained voice but it is not one that I can listen to with any d...

Bryan, Doris did so many fantastic songs that never get played, it's better NOT to have Que Sera, Sera as the theme here. If you tire of Daydreaming, there are literally hundreds of other songs that showcase her talent and that have held up EXTREMELY well. Better than QSS. QSS is an OK song but she ...

The two posts from 'guest' above are from two different people. I am the second one. I Didn't want to spend Bryan's bandwidth with a lengthy discussion. I only wanted to suggest that those interested in additional information on Ms. Langford's career, life and philanthropic activities might find the...
