Re: Romance on the High Seas

My take on Doris' smoking is that she did give it up for Christian Science - until she had a couple of health scares. She did go to the doctor, thank goodness. All things in moderation.

I am glad Ray said it. Turtlenecks, scarves, thick necklaces hide the neck. The neck is the first thing to tell a woman's (middle) age. Whenever I am curious about someone's age - that is the first clue. My neck just started to tell mine. Since I live in the Texas heat, I don't care who see's it!

Re: Doris Day: General Discussion 2

There is a mural of Doris in the food court at the All Movies motel at Walt Disney World. It is from the "Shaking the Blues Away" number from "Love Me or Leave Me." I spotted it right away. My husband did not think it was a good likeness. Her hair was a little darker than it should have been.

Re: With Six You Get Eggroll

LPT,

When I first saw Doris' movies with "bratty" sons like PDETD and With Six I was somewhat indignant. I thought why does she let them get away with that or gripe at them like she did. Then I had my own sons, I now think that was realistic!

BTW - I am a Texan from the Houston area!

Re: your favourite male and female singers

Doris Day all the Way! I also like Karen Carpenter, Linda Eder - and dare I say - some of the less dramatic Barbra Streisand songs.

I think Michael Buble is wonderful. I also like Neil Diamond and, of course, Frank Sinatra. I also like 1970's Elvis Presley.

Re: Young at Heart

I always thought Laurie didn't marry Alex because she found out her sister was in love with him. She married Frank because he was in love with her. I felt she cared more for her sisters happiness than her own.

I think Doris and Jack were two lonely souls finding comfort in each other. He was kind to her and very helpful.

Re: Send Me No Flowers

I happened upon this movie on AMC yesterday. I haven't watched a DD movie in quite some time. What struck me was how funny this movie was based on characterizations. Rock Hudson seemed to be much more relaxed in this movie than any other I have ever seen him in. They still had that sparkle, yet seem...

Inside Edition

I happened to be watching INSIDE EDITION today and they had a segment on Doris. They said she now goes by Clara Kappelhoff. The picture did look what might be a recent one. She looked a little heavier. She had long blonde hair under a straw hat. Her face looked basically the same - a little heavier....

My 2 cents

I think it is the emotions she brings up in each of us while listening to her music or watching her performaces is what makes us curious about the woman behind the voice and camera. I agree it isn't any of our business, but one does wonder.

My favorite song on the Latin album is "How Insensitive." It stuns me every time she breaks the guys heart. You can just feel his heartbreak.

Jane Spring is truly funny

I just finished reading The Thing About Jane Spring and it was a hoot. They did seem to imply that Doris was virginal in the Pillow Talk, Lover Come Back and That Touch of Mink however. They did stretch the "Doris persona" concept a bit, but that was written as the point of the plot. Jane takes on h...

Season 4

I just finished watching all the episodes. I thought Doris played Season 4 much bolder and fiestier. She also let her male suitors know that she was absolutely interested instead of holding back.

I got a lot of laughs from these episodes.

Pete should apologize

I think Pete should apologize personally to Doris. They certainly seem to be getting publicity from this mistake. Of course, that apology would be uncomfortable to make.

TCM Birthdat tribute

I got nothing done on Monday - except watch Doris all day. I have a new respect for "Julie" now. It is kind of pitiful how women are left to their own devices after leaving deranged husbands. To think that movie was done 50 years ago and not much has changed. They truly did shorten that kissing scen...

I read in a Jerry Lewis biography that Dean Martin was asked to play Sid opposite of Doris, but he refused. He wanted to be "the star" to start out his solo movie career.

I rated this movie as "average" for a Doris Day movie. But I think the average Doris Day movie is better than most any other movie out today. I actually start to like this movie a little more each time I watch it.

I like the feel of this movie, but I am not to much of a circus-movie person. I fast forward to Doris - skipping the circus-related stuff. Her performance and songs were terrific. Billy Martin

I just saw "Billy" on an ad for Bayer aspirin yesterday. He grew into quite a handsome man. He still has that cute grin. I have seen him in Lotrimin and Campell's soup ads - among others that I can't think of at this time. He also used to play a bartender on the soap "Loving."

I had this discussion with my brother and he one-upped me. He actually became a Doris Day fan after me. I made the argument that Cathy wasn't afraid to have sex so much as it was having it with such a sophisticated man. Her upbringing and experience may have been more limiting in that department. BU...
