Re: Doris Day Mentioned Quite Positively in New Book: The Movie Musical by Jeanine Basinger
Jeanine Basinger, the author, is a witty and very astute film historian and professor of film studies. I just had the opportunity to read the entire section about DD in this book, and I love the author's closing comment: "During her long period of reclusiveness, Doris Day could have stepped forward ...

Puck, thank you very much for this recent good news about DorisDay.net. Bryan, I'm sure, would be so pleased to know that his efforts will be preserved. He left all of us -- and countless other DD fans and researchers -- a wonderful legacy.

Michael, thanks for giving all of us a "heads up" that the forum could disappear suddenly. Kind of hard to wrap one's head around that possibility, but it's good to be aware of it.

Re: Latin For Lovers Album
This is indeed a superb album. Doris's rendition of several of the songs it contains reminds me of a comment Don Genson made. (He was executive producer for one season of Doris's TV show, as well as having a hand in some of her recordings prior to that.) Although his comment pertained to her final a...

Thank you for sharing this news and such a splendid tribute, Michael. You've expressed what I'm sure is in every forum member's heart. As someone who is technologically challenged, I was the beneficiary of Bryan's patience on multiple occasions. He always answered my questions graciously and was nev...

Excerpts from critic Gary Giddins
Many of you may be familiar with the writings of Gary Giddins, a multi award-winning music critic (particularly of jazz). His observations about Doris’s vocal work have included descriptions of her “unaffectedly sexy voice” and “an incendiary erotic glow that makes her best recordings sizzle.” I jus...

Cypress Inn
Every quarter the city of Carmel-by-the-Sea publishes a list of the top 25 businesses that produced the most sales tax revenue, which ends up in the city's treasury. Learned today that Terry's Lounge at Cypress Inn makes the list consistently. I bet that's a legacy Doris never expected to leave!

Johnny, White Shoulders is indeed still on the market. I wear it frequently, but didn't know that it was a favorite of Doris's, too.

Nice find, Johnny. I recall a brief interview with Kym Karath, in which she commented about how she loved the smell of Doris's perfume when filming "The Thrill of It All."

Re: Love Me or Leave Me
In my view, Doris gave the best performance of her entire career in this picture. The film as a whole is just wonderfully put together, including the masterful work of Isobel Lennart (who also wrote the screenplay for "Please Don't Eat the Daisies").

Re: September Song and My #1 Dream
Docwheels, the recording date on my copy of "My Number One Dream Came True" (music by Les Brown, lyrics by Bud Green) is 8/29/46. That would make it one of the final 3 or 4 songs Doris sang with Brown. I believe it was recorded in a studio; it does not sound like a recording from a bandstand.

Re: Music critic Will Friedwald on Doris Day.
Here's a chuckle -- another gem from Friedwald, this about Bing Crosby's recording of "Tell Me Why," which Doris sang in "On Moonlight Bay": Bing tried to "out-poignant" her rendition.

Re: Let Us Remember
Johnny, the letter from Ginger Rogers to Doris was dated December 6, 1979, a week after the Masquers Club in Hollywood had honored Ginger. She thanked Doris for her telegram on that occasion and wrote that the only thing better would've been if Doris could have attended the event.
