Re: New Radio interview to air on 10/30/10

I just went to http://www.wnyc.com and on the right side is "What's On".

Click on the "Listen Now" arrow just below Schwartz's picture. Guess it's on today and tomorrow!!

Six minutes to go . . .

Re: New Radio interview to air on 10/30/10

I listened briefly today to Jonathan Schwartz's program "Siriusly Sinatra". After a few musical selections, he said, "Here's Doris Day" and then he played her recording of "You My Love". He proceeded to mention this coming Sunday's chat with Doris. He said, "She called me up! Apparently she listens ...

Re: DORIS DAY & PERRY COMO

When it was announced that Perry would be Doris's guest on her special I thought, "Uh oh!" At that time on TV variety shows, stars often exchanged appearances on each other's shows. Perry always had a big Christmas special usually done live in a large theater and Doris had an aversion to performing ...

Re: Anyone see "Mad Men" last night?

That was a clever tie-in to Sunday nights' plot line - the 10-year-old daughter cut her hair and needed to get it fixed in the beauty parlor. Thus, "when I have a brand new hairdo" sung delightfully by Doris at the end of the program which is one of my favorite dramas. Great cast, writing, etc.

Re: Help, Please...DORIS DAY'S BROADWAY SONGBOOK

Mike,

The show "Mack and Mabel" was written by Jerry Herman and was on Broadway in 1974.

Doris recorded "Gypsy in My Soul" in 1957 and it was already a standard.

Re: Help, Please...DORIS DAY'S BROADWAY SONGBOOK

Mike,

One of my all-time favorite recordings by Doris is "Lost In Loveliness" from the 1954 Broadway show "The Girl in Pink Tights".

Also "When I Fall in Love" is from a movie not a B-way show. "Singing in the Rain"? Was that a B-way show?

Re: Video: A Bushel and a Peck

Hi Lauren, You said, ""Bushel and a Peck" - an embarrassment" I must disagree! The new Meryl Streep/Amy Adams movie, "Julie and Julia", uses Doris's recording of "A Bushel and a Peck" in the soundtrack near the end of the movie (which is really good IMHO - Streep is terrific as Julia Child). I don't...

Re: Barbara Walters & Doris.

WOW!!! That's an interview I never thought I'd see. My expectation was that Barbara was not happy with D's responses and that the interview was strained and didn't go well. Instead, it was nice to hear Barbara say at the beginning that she knew D. and liked her and so was biased in her favor. Eighte...

Re: DORIS DAY: Blonde on Blonde - Listen

I really appreciated the comments of Vladimir Ashkenazy near the end of the program:

"She always sang absolutely clean, very musical. Unaffected, straight to the point. Wonderful."

Re: US Elections - who's going to be the next President?

On last Sunday morning's news programs, it was conceded by a panel of political pundits that the election was essentially over and Obama would be the next president. Yesterday, on a financial news program, it was stated that Wall St. (meaning the stock market) has already assumed an Obama election. ...

Ronnell Bright interview

What I found surprising and interesting was that Doris was recording The Love Album "live". I thought she preferred to have the orchestra lay down their tracks first and then, when she felt she was ready, Doris would record her vocals. This album was recorded in 1967 after her Columia recording cont...

Ralph McKnight

At first I thought this was a post from Ralph. Like everyone here, I am shocked to learn of his sudden passing. And I also was hoping he would comment on the VF article and wondered why he hadn't done so. It must be 11 or 12 years since I first "met" Ralph from an early DD fansite and we exchanged s...
