Re: Doris Day: General Discussion 3
He made it impossible for her to divorce him without going bust, so what makes you think it would have been any easier for her to sack him as her agent? Because I work in the industry Michele, and one has zero to do with the other. Their joint investments as husband and wife were jeopardized by a d...

Re: Doris Day: General Discussion 3
No, I don't buy that way of thinking. She talks in her autobiography about Marty signing her to films without her knowledge as early as Do Not Disturb . That can happen exactly once. If you KEEP allowing him to do that after that, it's because you are choosing to let him do that. I don't believe he ...

Re: Doris Day: General Discussion 3
Except that Bryan, deferring to Marty WAS her choice. She CHOSE to allow him to make all those decisions/deals and she could have stopped him anythime she wanted to. As for the mismanaged finances, even Doris said in 1991 she believes that Marty just trusted the wrong man, until it was too late. The...

Re: Doris Day "Personality"
And Mikey, to me, that is the most important thing... that people have loved and enjoyed her work. No matter what genre, people loved what she did. And loved it madly. That doesn't seem to happen too much anymore. But then, there aren't too many stars with the kind of talent Doris had, plus her 110%...

Re: Doris Day: General Discussion 3
I agree with Bryan that you can't re-write history. But it is fun to play what if sometimes. I can see Doris as Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls . She would have been great. She was definitely NOT the one for My Fair Lady , which really should have been Julie Andrews anyway. (But we can't rewrite histo...

Re: Doris Day "Personality"
Sorry guys. I LOVE Doris' talent. That does not mean I'm blind to crappy songs and bad recordings, even by her. And YES, she did have some. EVERYONE does. Sinatra, Ella, Barbra, and even our dear Doris. I'm glad you like them, because people did work hard on those records. But you couldn't PA...

Re: Doris Day "Personality"
Doris DID sing them. And most of them WERE released at the time, plus others: Two Hearts, Two Kisses (CO 40483), Ooh! Bang! Jiggly Jang! (CO 40581) (dreadful!), Whad'ja Put in That Kiss (CO 40798), Twelve O'Clock Tonight (CO 40870), Rickety Rackety Rendezvous (CO 41015), Walk a Chalk Line (CO 41071)...

Re: Doris Day: General Discussion 3
Years later, with lots of water over the dam, those who were involved with the film were asked if they could do it over.........??????? Their response was: "We would have used Doris Day AT ANY COST". Well, not the director, Joshua Logan, who said in his autobiography that he never wanted Doris for ...

Re: Doris Day: General Discussion 3
I think it's awesome that the young people are discovering Doris without all the PR baggage from the late 60s and 70s, i.e. 40-year-old-virgin, out-of-date, etc. All they're seeing is a great talent. There's no BS around a supposed "image" for the people finding her today. I love that.

It may not be a dream Howard. This is exactly the kind of thing that can expose her catalogue to new and/or young listeners.
I've heard snippets of each song. It's fun. I'll probably get it.

Streisand Sets Another Record
Barbra has done it again. Her new album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 100 and set another record: she becomes the first artist in history to have #1 in albums in FIVE consecutive decades (the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s & 2000s). Not too shabby for a woman pushing 70. The album is terrific. It's an album of...

Bryan, that's too funny about Notorious . That's not too shabby a film, either. Definitely check out Sabotage sometime. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on it. And I love that poster! Re: Barbra Streisand at the Village Vanguard.
One other thing I take issue with Ray's statement, is that I don't think Doris knew when to quit. I think she quit too early. She defintely had more albums in her had she gone to a more mature, talent-friendly label, like Reprise (Sinatra's) or Pablo (Ella's). I respect her choice, but I don't agree...

Re: Doris Day Photos started 20 Aug 2009
Suzie, as a whole Beverly Hills is much prettier than Toluca Lake. The street with Doris' TL house is quite beautiful, but literally right around the corner is a bit more of a dump. With TL, it all depends on what street you're on. But I'll take TL over BH any day. Less pretentious. In "L.A. parlanc...

Dominique, Barbra also sang that song ("Value") at her Central Park concert in 1967. It was a semi-standard of hers in the 60's.

Re: Barbra Streisand at the Village Vanguard.
True, Streisand's voice is still going strong. Saw her live in 2006. Incredible. She's far from having to call it quits. And she's only 3 years older than Doris was when she did Best Friends . Would have loved to have been at the Vanguard, but I'm fairly certain it will be released on DVD eventually...

Yep, it was Dinah Shore that Burt Reynolds dated, not Doris. Someone in my office made that same mistake.
Bryan, aren't dreams fun?
That show sounds great. I wish we had more of them in the states.
