Re: Doris' Leading Men - who are Top 3?

Jas1 wrote:I made my choice solely on chemistry and not necessarily the credentials of the actor.

The first 2 choices are very natural for me- Rock and Jimmy.

The 3rd (again going on chemistry) led me to Rod Taylor - although Cagney is superb and a very close runner here.
Same here Jas .

Re: Pick Her Top Three Directors

My top 3= 1. Hitchcock- the master - who got one of the best performances out of Doris in a classic film; 2. Jewison- who (again) got one of Doris' best comedy performances out of her in Thrill of it all (and slapstick in Send me no flowers); 3.- Curtiz= for knowing real talent when he saw it ! Yes...

Re: Doris the role and the person

I agree Bryan. Also, I don't think that Marty gets the credit he deserves for steering Doris' career to amazing heights. Sure, he made mistakes, but only in the last 4 years of her film years. Let's remember Marty was instrumental in Doris tackling parts (out of character or genre - such as Love me...

Re: Doris the role and the person

Bryan...that was a great statement that you made and how very true . Very well thought out !!! I loved it. Good topic, Suzie. I remember Paul Brogan, whom we know has formed a close relationship with Doris, saying that fans, and people in general, usually confuse the "screen Doris" with the real per...

Re: Doris the role and the person

Jas , now that you mention it I do remember reading that In "Her own story ." You know I have to wonder sometimes if actors in general look at themselves in the mirrior and say " who am I really ? " after having played so many different people. I also remember Doris saying that sometimes it was hard...

Re: Why did you retired so young

Lindy Lou. I grew up loving Doris as well. I see you were born the same year that I was and you and I we just caught the tail end of Doris' movie career .The Doris Day show was on when we were in our teens so we got to enjoy that. Doris' movies were on the tv by then, so we got to see those fantasti...

Doris the role and the person

"Pillow Talk " and " Lover come back " and most all of her films have made me laugh and feel joy. What a wonderful gift that is to be able to make people so happy in you're lifetime . I notice that Doris always refers to her roles she has played as though they were someone other than herself...and in...

Re: Barry Comden, DD's fourth husband dead at 74

I do think that Doris had a pretty good marriage to Melcher. Yes he lost all of their money and yes he was far from perfect...but I must say that there were many years of joy and happiness in that marriage . Was the marriage perfect NO. I do think that they enjoyed many activities togeather..both ha...

Re: Heard Doris singing at Speedway today!

I wonder what Doris thinks when she is out and hears her songs played on the radio ? I often wonder if she can even wrap her mind around just how BIG of a star she was and is ?

Re: YOUR THE PRODUCER

Doris almost did do a film with Paul Newman. When she did her t.v. series, she was contracted by CBS to do two films for them. One of the films scheduled was to be with Paul Newman entitled "The Panda Affair" (I think). Instead of doing the two films, she opted for the two t.v. specials. That's the...

Doris sure loves her pets. Trying to protect them from bad press . That had to be so painful to almost lose you're finger like that. Mary Anne I bet it scared you to peices as well.

Oh , I agree. I was down town during our "old car festival " and the entire main street is shut down and people are looking at old cars and all of a sudden I hear our Doris singing " Secret Love " . Her lovely voice filled the air and everyone around me was singing along with her . It almost seemed ...

Wow Bryan , this was wonderful thank you so much for putting this here so we could hear it.
