Re: Forum Banners 2019
Wait.. the photo with the Pontiac is identified as "circa 1955".. if that's true (?) the car could be several years old. The scene looks early '50s, though.

Re: Forum Banners 2019
The car is a Pontiac.. looks like a 1952 model with that visor (see Google images). If that's true the photo could've been taken as early as the autumn of 1951 (U.S. cars then were always introduced in the previous fall of the model-year).

Re: California fires
Bryan, the fires in northern California (the town of Paradise) are probably six hours by car from Carmel. You're right, it is shocking and devastating for residents.. more than 200 are missing, known dead approaching 30, and 90% of buildings are gone it's said. Here in the city we're having dark ski...

Re: Young Man With a Horn
Since most mentions have always said it was Harry James' playing, where'd you get this info? DDay and Jimmy Zito can be seen exchanging a few words on YouTube on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He appears to have been part of Carson's band on the show, and it was posted by "Howard G" .. (Could ...

Re: Oct 15, 1937 The Cincinnati Enquirer
For those who watched Bryan's link of Oct 10th regarding the Cincinnati event: The short clip of Doris' life shown early in the link was narrated by Peter Marshall (well-known as an actor and singer -- and he's in the new Rose Marie film of HER life "Wait for Your Laugh"). He was also the master of ...

Re: News, Events and Comment
Here's what I mean.. On 22 Sept (at 16:11 hours) Bryan posted 3 links regarding the Clint Eastwood "news" The FIRST one (US online edition of the Guardian) includes Doris Day 3rd-billed in a 1941 movie. But you have to click on the link to see the clip of: the OTHER Doris Day, the earlier one (who h...

Wouldn't that online US edition of The Guardian be using the "other" (earlier) Doris Day in the video clip from 1941?

Re: Once Over Lightly
Last year at the party for her 90th I told Doris that I went "all the way back" to "Sentimental Journey" -- and we both laughed.. It's nice to know that "My Lost Horizon" was produced on my 5th birthday. I must have gone someplace with family where soundies were played, but don't remember them, unfo...

Also the last time anyone was seen to get " weak in the knees "

Last month "Julie" played on the big screen here in San Francisco as part of 'Noir City 13' -- a Saturday afternoon devoted to three of Andrew Stone's black-and-whites including "Cry Terror".. "Julie" was the middle one. There are scenes shot in SF and at the airport, of course, as well as in Carmel...

Looks to be Janis Paige to me, who celebrated her 90th birthday here last year with a short engagement at the now-defunct Rrazz Room (called "Feinstein's at the Nikko" these days). The cake (that was presented at the show) is there in the photo--see more in googleimages. The irony in being mis-label...

Interesting, and a lot of work, no doubt much of it difficult and time-consuming.. but "Sentimental Journey" made Doris Day famous -- it did not give her "notoriety". And he's incorrect in relating the years involved at the beginning of her fame, also--unfortunate for a blog that is so slanted towar...

Yes, there is, a 28-page one that I bought back in '06 in a music store. It's from: Warner Bros. Publications Warner Music Group An AOL Time Warner Company 15800 N.W. 48th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33014 (It's probably all changed now.) Page 2 is 'The Story of "The Pajama Game"'--meaning the plot of th...

Mike is completely right--Lloyd J turned me on to this book earlier this year. There is nothing out there that will tell you as much about hundreds of singers of both popular music and jazz. It's more than 800 pages long, with NO photos--it's all interesting insight about every important singer--and...

TMWKTM played on the big screen last night at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland--complete with cartoon, newsreel, short subject, all for $5--and I couldn't go due to other plans.
Check out the theatre online to see a gorgeous Art Deco masterpiece of a place--they show movies only once in awhile.
