Re: Doris Day - Her Own Story
I read the biography for the first time last summer. It really is a great read. What I loved about the book is that it is authorized and in her own words. You really get a glimpes into who she really is. She was born in the same neighborhood that I grew up and it was exciting to read her depictions ...

Did anyone have any success in hearing the broadcast through Mediaplayer? I waited the whole year and couldn't hear it! Crappe.

Re: name doris' best ever performance
"The Man Who Knew Too Much" was the best performance by Doris Day. She was a true character actress in that film. That character was totally separate from who Doris Day is in the comedies.

Re: The house where Doris was born
For future reference needs.... according to US census records, in 1920, the Kappelhoffs lived at 3475 Greenlawn (with Gramma Welz), and in 1930 they lived at 1811 Brewster. Thanks for the info. there. Is there an internet link you can post to retrieve that info? I've looked on the Census site but h...

Re: 63 Year Love Affair
I understand just how you feel about Doris. I'm 45 and have been entranced by her since the very early 70's. There is something unique about her. I don't know what it is; that voice, the smile, the kindness you feel coming from her. There is definitely something within her that reaches out to a lot ...

Re: The house where Doris was born
George thanks so much for the pictures. Sure would be tempting to purchase the home, the price is right especially for an investment, but just a little too far for me to be able to take care of the rents and such. St Marks is still beautiful . It will be fun to hear from you george, should you go s...

Re: The house where Doris was born
I wish I could just go in it and see it. I think I would feel the presence of Doris. Maybe one day I will go up that way and see if I can find it. Carol Carol, what's really neat about the area is that the location hasn't changed much. My dad grew up in the same area as she did a few years after he...

What I like most about "Young At Heart" is the family feeling in the movie. There's is such a loving atmosphere within the family that I really enjoy.

Re: favourite films
I love most of her movies. "Julie" really wasn't that well made, but with Doris Day in it, it was enjoyable to watch. However, I would rank a good movie by the ability to start watching it anywhere during the movie. My kids love the comedy movies, so I'll rank them according to their preference: 1....

I know, Carol. Actually, it's only $95K and has three rental units in it. It would pay for itself through rent. It's tempting.carol_bcd wrote:That is pretty cool.
Wish I could buy it. Her house, not the church.

Great pics, George. I think it's definately the same house. http://i33.tinypic.com/28rzbsj.jpg Re: That one of Doris could have been taken anywhere. Re: The house where Doris was born
Debbi, that's a great photo of Doris as a small child touching the tree. I was looking at that photo and if you look at it, she is actually on the sidewalk next to the street. That's the Greenlawn and Jonathan intersection. You can see the sidewalks where she is standing and across the street. Also,...

The only picture I've seen of her near the house was from the 70's book and that was just a backyard photo with little background to make out.

Re: The house where Doris was born
Actually, yes I had been thinking of going to look at the actual records. I had hoped to find something online but physically doing it is what I'll probably have to do. I've emailed Dusty Rhoads to see if he could point me in the right direction.

Re: Doris Day: General Discussion
You know, one thing that rings true about her life is honesty. In her book she states that she never wanted fame but just wanted a family. If you look at her life up to the time that Melcher died, she was doing whatever it took to keep her family together. I think Melcher wanted her in show business...

Re: The house where Doris was born
I've had the same thought about the age of the house and her age. It sure would be nice if someone who knew her knew about our little discussion here. I know she has a cousin that still lives in Western Hills and the woman who was in the car she wrecked in as a teen is still in the area. They would ...

Re: The house where Doris was born
I went to realtor.com and the date the house was built is showing 79 years ago which is after she was born. Makes me wonder if the house on Google is the correct house. It does have the driveway she described in her book.

Re: The house where Doris was born
You know, that's what surprises me about Cincinnati's city council. She has to be the biggest celebrity to come out of here, but her house just sits there. You would think the city would want to make something special out of that house. Just a few blocks from her house close to Xavier University is ...

Re: The house where Doris was born
If the house in the pictures is the correct house, then it is for sale. I drove over there about a week ago and the for sale sign is still out. It would be awesome to live in that house with the history we all enjoy regarding her.

Re: The house where Doris was born
Ok, then it looks like it is on the corner of Greenlawn and Jonathan. One thing that is neat with the Google Map is you can go around the neighborhood. If you take Greenlawn to Jonathan on the Google Map and make a right turn on Jonathan, it will dead end at the church Doris Day attended as a child,...
