Re: The DD 'Image' !

How true Howard ! Not long ago I viewed a YouTube clip of Kay Starr singing one of her major hits on a recent show. Sadly she could not sing it anymore so the rendition was kept very brief. Not something I would ever like to see again. Rosie Clooney-----well the weight gain and the years of smoking-...

Can A Truly Excellent Book on DD Be Written ?

I have my doubts. Although its great that DD is never forgotten and lately there has been a renewed interest in her work via quite a number of books being written about her--------these efforts appear to be missing the mark. As with everything else these days---there seems to be this 'need' for writ...

Re: IF IM LUCKY - Perry Como Movie !

Hello Calamity Lisa ! Hoping all is well. Sorry that the CARMEN MIRANDA DVD COLLECTION is not available in the proper format as I know you would enjoy it ! Yes the cost of PERRY COMO IN ITALY on Amazon is way too high ! Perhaps in the future you will find it at far more reasonable price ! There is a...

Re: The DD 'Image' !

I am indeed very happy for her and that she long ago wisely left the 'fishbowl' that is Hollywood. I do wish those 'rags' would turn their attention to another subject and those latest books being written about her tend to view her through a 2010 perspective so they do not present a balanced picture...

Re: Considering Doris Day

I have to disagree with his views about DD's early films at WB. They might not have been as well produced or conceived as the musicals of MGM - nevertheless these early DD films were entertaining and fun to watch. They were unpretentious movies that made no pretense to be what they are ---- pleasant...

BTW - that's a very nice house she owns.
Big spacious porch all around and the place looks very much a part of Carmel and fits in well with the setting.

Notice how these tabloids neglect to mention that DD is still very much active with the Animal Foundation and takes a lively interest in responding to her fan mail.

Re: Are These People Really "Stars?"

_____________________________________________ It's true that movie stars of the Golden Age (which ended in the '60s) rarely appeared on television, except on Academy Awards night. It's true that rarely you'd see one on What's My Line? or the Tonight Show, but hardly ever ACTING on a show or sitting...

Re: Starlift

I watched this film again. It sort of grows on one with repeated viewings. Why ? Because its unpretentious and is quite fun in parts. DD's role was fine though I think it could have been a bit longer. She should have been brought back again towards the end of the film---instead of just vanishing wit...

Re: Vocal Problems !

I am happy that she still sings - even if just for herself. Again - these conflicting reports and inaccuracies from those dreaded 'rags' ! I read that she could no longer sing because she developed allergies from the pine trees on her property while walking her dogs. At any rate - its great she can ...

Re: YOUR FAVORTE DORIS

It would have to be her fine singing. As for her movies -- I like her best in her early films at WB --- the ones where she was permitted to be positive and energetic and the 'onward and forward' approach. As good as was some of her later work----there were not as many opportunities for her to use th...

For a comic change of pace -- I would like to see the picture of DD as MATA HARI - the costume she wore in a brief scene in THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT to be featured in the Forum Banner - if possible. The one wear she wore the enormous gold headdress !

Re: Doris Day's Songs at the Oscars

True. If she had not landed a career in movies she would have continued as a singer and would eventually solve her 'stage fright' and go on to appear in several LIVE venues in addition to recording. As it turned out - she continued to record prodigiously even with her film career so it all still bal...

Re: Did Doris retire too early?

It is very difficult to sustain such a long and illustrious career. Not so easy to navigate changing trends either. I suppose one can stick to the tried-and-true that had brought them to fame but after a performer has exhausted all that and there is no other suitable material that is forthcoming - w...

Re: Being Seen In Public today

Anyway, ... Being Seen In Public today. It's up to her, isn't it? I'm sure she goes out but doesn't 'announce it'. As Ralph McKnight used to say, she's very protective of her legacy and probably doesn't want pictures of her in her eighties published all over the place. If you remember she stopped r...

Guten Tag Lisa ! How are you ? My favorite Perry Como song is ITS IMPOSSIBLE - his major hit from 1971 - a song that greatly revived his career. It encouraged him to even go back to LIVE performing - something he had not done in many years. I can also recommend his albums---------perhaps you can fin...

Does DD Ever Hear From Her Former Co-Workers !

IF IM LUCKY - Perry Como Movie !

Don't know how many MR. C fans come to this forum but I happen to be one of them ! As a kid I greatly enjoyed his TV specials though he was soundly criticized, often overlooked and underrated. Perhaps it was his overall lowkeyed personality and laid back approach though obviously much care and thoug...

Re: Singers who had most unusual voices

Lena Horne was quite accomplished but to me she rather cold. Somehow she did not really seemed too relaxed or at home - there wasn't much in the way of warmth. Streisand also has a wall built around herself and the audience. Eartha Kitt was basically a 'cabaret artist'--------more of a LIVE audience...

Re: It's a Great Feeling

There were several funny bits - the Joan Crawford and the messed-up screen test. The irate train depot clerk was also a funny scene. Also DD parading as a French Cabaret Star. The Danny Kaye and the eye popping were probably the weakest. I was not aware of two songs becoming HITS but that is because...
