Re: The Thrill of it All
For me - the scene where Doris nervously botches up her first commercial - with assistance from a pesty and annoying director (Bernie Kopell) who badgers her quite a bit - has me in entirely in stitches ! Her stammering and 'hems and haws' - the hesitancy and the way in which she brings it across is...

Re: song from Glass Bottom Boat
I also recall some really pleasant and enjoyable background music during the party scene -- in it, the piano plays a prominent part - its an upbeat tune and performed in a 'high society' style - wish I knew the name of it. Those films often featured good background music - nice tunes though on many ...

Re: Hi there! I'm new here
Its really nice to have this forum and to hopefully get to meet other DD fans. For many years I thought I was the only one because I am a middle-aged person - I got to know Doris' work fot the first time when I was 7 - I was taken to a tiny movie theater in a small rural town in the mountains to see...

Re: Another book analyzing the Day persona...
It is indeed wonderful to know that there is apparently continued interest in the work of DD - even though TCM is the only place where the average TV viewer - who may not be into video or DVD collecting - can get to see her films while it is almost next to impossible to catch her songs on the radio ...

LET THE LITTLE GIRL LIMBO
Does anyone here know much about this song ? I have heard it at least once or twice. It sounds somewhat along same lines as EYDIE GORME'S 'BLAME IT ON THE BOSSA NOVA' - perhaps those two songs were released around the same time but was 'LIMBO' ever become popular if not a hit ? I know that EYDIE'S '...

Re: Recent Quote By BETTE MIDLER !
I do wish I was born way too late. Were it not for TCM - I would not be able to see all the wonderful old films. I wish I could listen to those great songs from the past but there are no radio stations in my area that play Doris Day or Perry Como or Bing or any of those musical legends. This is odd ...

PBS & DD !
How many of you in this forum have been able to watch those recent PBS music specials in which the few remaining singing stars of the past appear and sing their hit tunes ? I personally have quite ambivalent feelings about this matter. Speaking as a resident of the USA - let's face it - the American...

UK Character Actresses !
Webmaster - you made a good point. I notice that there are any number of top quality actresses from the UK - the Mirrens, Denches, etc, that have managed to maintain their film careers past a certain age and distinguish themselves with any number of fine performances. Hollywood - for me, at least - ...

Re: Did Doris retire too early?
I think that Doris' career lasted for as long as it possibly could. Her films after GLASS BOTTOM BOAT were not very good though it was not her fault. She was highly professional and still turned out fine performances in less than stellar material. The movie industry had changed and had she somehow m...

Any Good Radio Stations Via The Web w/Doris Singing ?
I happen to reside in a large urban metro area. One would think with the many radio stations available up and down the dials - there would be at least 1 station where I could hear Doris or Perry Como or Jo Stafford, etc. Unfortunately not ! I am told that SIRIUS has a wonderful station specializing ...

Re: Did Doris retire too early?
Regarding Doris' early retirement - I do not think she had many options. Her movie career had faded largely due to the fact that her final films were not very good and Hollywood is not too forgiving a place. She was also well into her 40's at the time and ageism is alive and well in the movie indust...

Re: Doris Day deserves an Oscar
Something is puzzling me - perhaps someone here can shed some light on this topic ! DD certainly deserves an honorary OSCAR though she is within her rights to decline for the reasons that have been mentioned and posted before-------she will not travel to L.A. so that's that ! Now back in either the ...

Re: Starlift
I have come to like STARLIFT which is probably not a popular opinion. Its a highly entertaining film - I do wish that DD's role was a bit longer - but she does get to sing 3 solo songs plus a cute duet with Gordon MacRae. It is always wonderful to hear her sing - period ! As for the role itself - it...

In USA - Very Tough To Hear DD Singing on RADIO
I happen to reside in a heavily populated area-----would you believe that there are no longer any commercial radio stations that play Doris Day recordings - indeed, none of the singing of any of her colleagues or contemporaries ? If one has the money - even in these economically challenging times - ...

A few people on that forum wanted to ascertain how they could receive an au...
