Re: Rare Doris Day/Buddy Clark Recordings

Hi, all -

Just an FYI: "A Strawberry Moon" was co-written by Bob Hilliard, who also co-wrote "Why Did I Tell You I Was Going to Shanghai" and a lovely song -- played in the background of Doris's movie "With Six You Get Eggroll" -- titled "You Make Me Think About You." Very talented songwriter.

Re: Forum Banners 2014

Yes, I do think that Melcher knew the value of publicity and that he wanted it. I didn't mean to say that he told the press that Doris was uncooperative. From reports I've read, it was HE who was uncooperative by being so controlling -- for instance, restricting the topics that could be discussed an...

Re: Forum Banners 2014

Re: the details of the Sour Apple Awards -- The 1954 "award" came on the heels of her self-described 1953 breakdown. In her memoir, Doris recounts that this malady began while visiting her son at the Boy Scout jamboree (which was held July 17-23, 1953) and she also says that she "cancelled all recor...

Re: The Way She Says Bluoooze (Blues) How many songs.

Hi, Jill - You're right; her "L"s are very distinctive. When I was in pre-school, it was hard for my young ears to determine who was singing on the radio; on some recordings, Doris and particularly Dinah Shore and Rosemary Clooney sounded similar to me at that time (in the 40s). My father, who was a...

Re: Forum Banners 2014

Hi, Jill -

Just re-reading Doris's memoir and there she says, "The idea of alimony was repugnant to me . . . so I asked nothing of Al Jorden." I agree that she seems to have been good at picking her battles -- a good tactic for everybody!

Re: Forum Banners 2014

Another nice banner; thank you! Question about Sentimental Journey being Doris's first #1 hit: I believe that -- although SJ was recorded first -- My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time was released first. This may be misinformation, but it's my impression that MDAGB hit the top of the Billboard ...

1963 UNITED NATIONS RECORDING

Just a bit of trivia that might be of interest: In 1963 Doris was one of a dozen people or groups internationally recognized in the recording industry who were chosen by the U.N. to contribute one recording apiece to an album produced as a fund-raiser for refugee relief. Her contribution was "The Ev...

Re: Lucky Me

To me, the script was average and the music (especially the two ballads) above average. If you want escapism in a movie, this can supply it. I've come across these comments about Doris from Bob Cummings and Martha Hyer: To paraphrase, Cummings said that Doris "doesn't make a grand entrance; she simp...

A DORIS STORY FROM FELLOW OHIOAN

Hi, everyone - This is my first day as a forum member, and I wanted to share something I stumbled across on the internet. It is a short but very sweet story about Doris from a stamp collector who grew up in Cincinnati. You should be able to find it by typing in your search engine "New Stamps Teach p...
