Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Yes, it's April in Paris. With regard to the dancing Presidents, it's easiest to give a simple explanation. Ray Bolger is celebrating and dancing around in the State Department offices. In one of the rooms there are life sized portraits of Washington and Lincoln on the wall and they come to life and...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Some hints: the male lead's character in this film worked for the U.S. State Department, as did his father. The dancing Presidents had some connection with the State Department. The male lead was also in the movie version of the Wizard of Oz. There was a sea voyage in the movie reminiscent of some o...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Okay Bryan. We have now ruled out 5 of the 17 films Doris made at Warner Bros. Only 12 more to go. Actually, sometime soon, I'll give a clue or two if no one gets it. I do agree with Tex. I, too, would like to encourage others to take part in the quiz. It's fun. And you don't have to know all the an...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

" Here's a new quizzer. In which Doris Day movie and under what circumstances do you see George Washington and Abraham Lincoln dancing? And, no, they're not dancing with Doris or with each other." Above is my quiz question. So, I was asking for the name of the movie plus the circumstances where Wash...

Tex:

I think the missing film is Do Not Disturb, set in England and France.

Caprice was supposed to take place in Switzerland and France (as well as the U.S.) I believe.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2015

I noticed some of you wondering where to find these black and white pictures of Doris. I decided to try on my own with Google and found a kind of gold mine. I typed in: Doris Day in France and bunches of pictures came up. Granted they're mixed in with color pictures and some that aren't Doris but th...

Re: I'll See You in My Dreams

While waiting in a doctor's office yesterday, I picked up a current copy of People Magazine and there it was--a blurb about Blythe Danner currently starring in a movie called "I'll See You In My Dreams." My immediate reaction was, WHAT??? When I read a little further I found that Blythe Danner is in...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

To be technical, there are other DD films that were set outside the U.S. Calamity Jane was set in the Dakota Territory before North and South Dakota became states. In fact, if I remember correctly, when they were still in Chicago, Katie/Adelaide asks Calam where Deadwood is and Calam tells her it's ...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Yesireeeee! Those are the right answers. You win the grand prize. I was watching Jumbo recently and that line struck me as so funny this time, even though I had seen the film many times before. I was trying to picture getting an elephant into a basement and it really tickled my funnybone.

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Clues for the latest quiz question: This person was famous for a theme song which started with, "Ink adink adink, adinkado, adink adink..." and only was in this one movie with Doris. Once you know who I'm quoting and the title of the movie you'll know what the quote is about I think.

Judy and Bryan: Great! I got it right! I love this quiz. I think it's fun and it challenges me to think. Speaking of thinking, it occurred to me that the 3 of us participate in the quiz the most. One factor might be that it gets lumped in with the banner comments and it's not very visible. Is it pos...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

With regard to your latest quiz question, Musiclover, my first thought was that all three women provided child care for Doris' kids in the movies. But, she didn't have any kids in Glass Bottom Boat. So, some things they did have in common are that they all played older women who, in my opinion, were...

Bryan: Thanks for posting the picture of Allyn Ann McClerie. However, it was I, not Judy, that asked you to post it. Re: 2015 Doris Day Pictures

It never ceases to amaze me how we can all look at the same picture and see something different. Case in point, the above picture of Doris with a man underneath a clock. I didn't think it was her first husband or that it was taken in New York. It looked to me like there was fog and I thought the clo...

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2015

Yes!!!!!!!! My favorite, black and whites. Thanks, Bryan. The first one you have here is what Doris looked like the first time I ever saw her which was when I went to see Romance on the High Seas. Before that, I only knew what she sounded like on the radio. Therefore, this early look brings back fon...

Day After Day

I've been on a quest to find a recording of some kind of the song Doris' last name, Day, was taken from. I had read that Doris never recorded it which is no doubt true because she sang it so early on in Barney Rapp days I believe. I just wanted to hear what it sounded like. Well, I finally found it ...

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2015

You may remember me as one who prefers the old black and white pictures of Doris. It seems I say that a lot. But, I have to admit that this current banner, in color, is simply gorgeous, as is she, in it. Wow! Every once in a while something comes along that is so beautiful it's hard to find words fo...

Re: My Dream is Yours

My 90+ friend played only with a local band. With regard to women playing baseball, there was a movie that came out in the early 1990's I think, that was called A League of Their Own which was about those womens' teams. Tom Hanks was in it and a famous line of his in the movie was, "There's no cryin...

Re: My Dream is Yours

Johnny: Now that you mention it, I can't remember seeing a woman band leader in any other movie. I've been trying to think of reasons why there was one in THIS movie. I have no proof of this but something tells me that there's a part of Doris that has always been strongly in favor of womens' rights ...
