Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

James, we haven't heard much from you on the quiz. Why don't you go ahead and pose the next question? Or let me know if you'd rather not.

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

I think the musical was Jumbo, the drama was Midnight Lace, and one of the comedies was It Happened to Jane. True?

Re: April in Paris

Yes, I do agree that she is and always has been a trooper. Regardless of what cards were dealt her in her personal and professional lives she made the best of it. I don't know who wrote: "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." But, whoever it was, they were describing Doris.

Re: April in Paris

I don't feel that Ray Bolger was miscast as the male lead in this romantic comedy. In fact, he won the Tony Award in 1948 for Where's Charley? for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, romantic comedy type. If some of you feel he was miscast as a male lead for Doris in particular you cer...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

OK. Here's the context in which Doris said, "White or whole wheat?" Doris is intent on making Ray Bolger jealous so that he'll propose to her again. So, she goes home with the Frenchman, Philippe Fouquet, played by Claude Dauphin, acting as if they're up to no good. Ray Bolger follows them and Claud...

Re: April in Paris

I re-watched this movie recently and decided to read through all the comments on this Forum about it, just for the heck of it. I was surprised to find that the majority of people disliked Ray Bolger, except for his dancing, and thus disliked the movie. They liked Doris and the songs. No surprise the...

I'll give everyone until tomorrow to come up with the conversation. If no one gets it, I'll spill the beans. Meanwhile, if anyone has a copy of April in Paris or can access it on the internet, you only need to watch the last ten minutes or so to see the conversation which includes the now infamous "...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

April in Paris is correct. However, from the beginning, I've been asking for the context of the conversation in which the question, "White or whole wheat?" was asked. You may recall that I said it takes place close to the end of the film.

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Well, it looks like it's time for some hints re: Doris saying "White or whole wheat?" Very close to the end of the movie, she was involved in a discussion with her costar about a Frenchman and his children and this is when she asked the question. Any thoughts about what movie it was and what the dis...

Re: News, Events and Comment

I came across this article that was in the Cincinnati newspaper on Doris's birthday this year. Most of the pictures in it were familiar to me but there are two of places in Cincy that I'd never seen before. At any rate, I thought it might be of interest. Link is http://www.cincinnati.com/search/Dori...

Good guess but I believe the sandwiches in I'll See You In My Dreams were salami on pumpernickel. The quote is from another film Doris made. If no one guesses it in a few days, I'll give some clues.

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Doris Day had a knack for delivering a funny line in a movie with great skill. One case in point is when she said, in response to another person, "White or whole wheat?" What movie was this in and in what context was it said? Then I have a second, unrelated quiz question. Can you name the character ...

Actually, the current banner picture is NOT from Romance On The High Seas. It's from My Dream Is Yours which I just watched again to double check. Doris' hairdo, earrings and blouse match up with those in a restaurant scene in the latter where Doris and Jack Carson are eating scrambled eggs and plot...

When you say "specific venue" I'm not sure what you mean. So, I'll tell you what I found in a book written by a man who was there and saw/heard Doris sing. He said it was "at the New York World's Fair, Dancing Campus Pavillion."
