Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

S. Z. Sakall, Mary Wickes, Thelma Ritter, Billy DeWolfe and Billy Gray are the ones that come to mind immediately. Gene Nelson was also in a support role in Tea For Two and the West Point Story.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2015

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes. And THIS beholder thinks that the black and white photos of Doris are the most beautiful! In fact, they are stunning.

And Lauren, I have a question for you. Why is Doris purple in your avatar?

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

I cannot find it. I felt sure that Doris, in one of her roles we haven't mentioned, spoke of her father as having been a janitor and that she had gone from humble beginnings to a much better life.

I'm done looking for it.

I have a copy of Caprice but haven't watched it for a while. However, on reading what you just wrote Judy, I believe you have remembered correctly.

Meanwhile, I'm sure there's yet another father one and I'm looking for it now.

Tex:

You are so right. I really thought this might stump people. Oh how little I know about my fellow Dyed in the Wool Doris Day Fans.

What I believe is so lovely about what Sammy Cahn said is that he recognized Doris' wealth of talent at such an early point in time.

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Thanks Texas, while I am thinking, please - anyone else feel free to start another quiz. Who said this? " I’ll remember this to my grave…. We all walked into a room to see the screen tests. The first screen test was XXXXXXX. Then came XXXXXXX. Then on the screen came Doris Day. I can only tell you,...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Yes,I meant the train that I thought she and Jack Lemmon were driving. (I thought a train was a locomotion? Or the front part anyway.) Bryan: I think this may be a matter of English in the UK vs. English in the US. On our part, the front end of a train would usually be called the engine or sometime...

I'm not sure what Bryan meant by "locomotion" regarding It Happened to Jane. However, I do remember Doris driving her station wagon in that movie.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2015

I very much agree with Johnny's comments made earlier today. I was getting very concerned with the postings about Doris' frumpy clothes and appearance in TMWKTM and comments about how Hitchcock was to blame. So, I need to say what I think. I watched the movie again this evening to refresh my memory....

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

Some of these movies have already been mentioned but in those I have some transportation modes to add. Julie--(who could forget?) Doris piloted the plane Jumbo--after the carousel scene and the dancing, she "drives" the horse and wagon a short distance and winds up falling in the mud; I think she al...

Tex:

There are some of Doris' movies that we know full well were filmed in a studio but it appears on screen as if she's travelling by a particular mode. With those, should we assume that she IS actually travelling by that mode or not?

I'm watching a British show, Last Tango in Halifax, on PBS. There's a new baby in the family and they've named her Calamity Jane. Interesting choice of names don't you think?

Re: News, Events and Comment

Amazon is now selling DVD's of all? or some? of Johnny Carson's Tonite shows. I understand that you can buy individual DVD's or the whole set. Doris made 3 appearances altogether I believe, 2 with Johnny and 1 with McClean Stevenson. Correct? If any of you know the dates of her appearances and have ...

Lauren: I have been listening to the recordings of Doris at home that you made available to us. As you no doubt know, there's too much to listen to in one session so I've been listening to them a little at a time. I regret that I didn't respond to you sooner about this and I suspect there may be oth...

Very good Brian. I wonder if the horse's name was Mr. Ed. He was a talking horse who had his own TV show here in the U.S. Anyone remember him? For all we know, he may have directed his own shows. As you all may know, I'm very partial to the black and white photos of Doris. I'm not sure why but I lov...

Ray:

Speaking for myself, I moved around in those big dresses "VERY CAREFULLY." I and the dress took up a lot of room in a car, in an elevator, on a dance floor, in a bathroom, in a restaurant, etc. I sure was happy when styles changed.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Doris' website.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2015

Thanks for the April in Paris pictures. By chance, does anyone have one of the dancing Presidents? I wore dresses like this one ( which I'm sure were a lot less costly than Doris') to my high school prom and twice when I was a bridesmaid. Personally, I found them to be a pain. They were sooo bulky a...

I really don't know how Doris was related to the bride and groom. Anything I say about it would be a guess. But if you're wanting a picture of Doris' parents, there's one in the book on the page next to the wedding photo we're discussing. It has her mother and father and her father is holding infant...

Re: Doris Day 2015 Quiz

I thought I had seen that picture before. In her book (Doris Day, Her Own Story) there's a group of pictures following page 40. This is the second one. The caption says that Doris was the flower girl for the wedding of her Uncle Frank and Aunt Hilda who would be the people sitting to Doris' left. Si...
