Janice Rule Originally A Dancer ?

I was watching STARLIFT last night and actress Janice Rule danced twice in the film with Gene Nelson.
Was she originally a dancer ? She was quite good though I do not recall knowing that much about her additional talent.

Re: Important Statement about Doris Day by her friends

Good morning Bryan, I have just read it....very good indeed....I do hope they stop bothering her...I feel hopeless not being able to do something about it.....Thank you Marti Agreed 100 % ! It must be extremely tiresome for her to have to listen to these stupidities ! Sorry but I cannot find a bett...

Re: DD on CBS Sunday Morning

I thought this segment was misleading to a viewer who may not be as familiar with the work of DD as the rest of us in this forum. The CBS segment was just another example of inaccuracies and painted DD as some sort of a GRETA GARBO type recluse which clearly she is not ! I don't know what CBS was tr...

Re: Being Seen In Public today

I think that DD truly relishes her life in Carmel and probably feels she made enough personal appearances back in Hollywood. When she moved to Carmel - she had decided to put Hollywood behind her. It can be quite stressful for a famous personality to have to get themselves together for a public appe...

Re: Rush and Doris

Politics is a very sticky business. It seems that its too hot a topic while the differences of opinion often lead to clashes among every day people which I think is most unfortunate. I believe that the politicians on 'both sides of the aisle' have done us wrong. Does not matter what their persuasion...

Re: DORIS DAY & PERRY COMO

When it was announced that Perry would be Doris's guest on her special I thought, "Uh oh!" At that time on TV variety shows, stars often exchanged appearances on each other's shows. Perry always had a big Christmas special usually done live in a large theater and Doris had an aversion to performing...

DD Co-Star in LULLABY OF B'WAY - Question !

There was a dark haired and perky actress who portrayed the friend of Billy De Wolfe in the movie Lullaby of Broadway. I can't remember her name but she also had a pretty good voice. I recally trying to do a search on her but came up rather short. I do not remember seeing her in any other film. Does...

Re: Singers who had most unusual voices

Early Sinatra I liked before his voice coarsened. I think his repertory was better in the earlier stages. Ella maintained an excellent style - I liked the fact that one could hear every single word - her repertory was always tops. I was never a fan of Billie - she used to vocally slide too much and ...

Re: The DD 'Image' !

All points here are well taken. I think it all depended on the era when DD was appearing in films. The late 60's professionally tuned out quite problematic for her because 'versatility' was no longer considered important in Hollywood while 'singing' and 'dancing' on the cinema were definitely out ! ...

The DD 'Image' !

Much has been made and been written about DD's image. The monikers about 'The Girl Next Door', 'Miss Goody Two Shoes', 'Suzy Cream Cheese' et al. Where did this start anyway ? I agree with her wholeheartedly - she did not consciously seek to convey such an image. Basically what I see on the screen i...

Re: Singers who had most unusual voices

Ann Sothern -- she had a very unusual and fairly good voice. I frankly did not know that she began as a singer --- she of course became better known for her TV sitcoms and non-musical movie work. Still in the film LADY BE GOOD she contributed some very fine vocals. Her THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS was ...

Re: Singers who had most unusual voices

Fred Astaire also had a most unusual voice and also made some recordings that were highly regarded though he himself did not think himself as much of a singer and considered his recordings to be merely 'novelties'. He was most dismissive of his vocal efforts despite the praises of many people in the...

Re: DORIS DAY & PERRY COMO

Easily both happen to be my favorite singers. I was happy that they did 'team' up for this TV special. It did not get any better than this ! However, its a shame that there was a 'fallout' where DD did not honor her 'verbal contract'' with Perry and would not appear on his Christmas Special. For awh...

Re: DD Song --- A GUY IS A GUY

Yes the GUY in the song A GUY IS A GUY (in the lyrics !) in today's mentality would most definitely come across as a stalker or 'worse' ! I guess it was successful back in the day because it was an upbeat tune. DD of course made the most of it. Its just a novelty tune but for me it is not indicative...

Re: Are There More DORIS fans outside the USA ?

Agreed. Not only DD but others from her era were also 'phased' out of the US public consciousness. For instance, Perry Como was once a staple in many an American household. Both he and Bing Crosby and their Christmas Specials were part and parcel. We lost Bing in '77 and for some years after that Pe...

Thanks for the info ! I was unware that Debbie had any communications with DD but I guess both being in the same biz -- its possible.
Debbie is among the very few from that golden/glorious era still active with her 'LIVE' shows plus occasional movie appearances. Also her Museum of Film Artifacts.

Re: DORIS : ALBUM QUEEN OF THE 50'S

She certainly recorded many albums in the 50's into the 60's. Most definitely deserves to be lauded for these efforts. When the radio stations were playing her type of music - they tended to stick to just 5-6 of her titles. I could be wrong but I think you're wonderful ! LOL ! Me and my song titles ...

DD Song --- A GUY IS A GUY

I know this was a Hit for DD but I am none to keen on this particular song. It was one of those Mitch Miller ideas and of course DD for Columbia had to go along with it. Naturally she did a wonderful job but there are so many other songs that do her far more justice and provide her with voice with m...
