Re: Any favorite title songs?
Howard - I liked the following - DO NOT DISTURB & GLASS BOTTOM BOAT Title Songs. Move Over Darling was a good one as well. The other ones were OK - some better than others - though none of them were particularly memorable. PLEASE DON'T EAT THE DAISIES I thought was a rather dumb song. Probably the w...

Re: The West Point Story
I always liked Virginia Mayo though I did not know much about her. I came to know her films rather late. TCM really introduced me to her work though I had heard her name. I feel that I was born too late and really missed being able to go to the movies and see these people when they were active. Even...

Happy For This Website & Forum !
I have always been a major DD fan though admittedly not as knowledgeable about her as many people here. Some have even had the pleasure of actually meeting her though the closest I got was to visiting the lobby of the CYPRESS INN a few years back. I also managed to get her autographed photo through ...

DD Films Where She Did Not Sing At All !
Hard to believe but there were a few films in which DD did not sing even one note ! After musicals were phased out - usually she would sing the film's title song over the opening or closing credits and sometimes there would be a song thrown in the film itself but here is a chronological list of DD m...

Thanks Paul ! I did not know about that Doris was originally considered for MOLLY BROWN. It was not mentioned in Debbie Reynold's book. According to Debbie - Shirley MacLaine was originally slated for MB but she was under contract to a Hal Wallis who would not release her to MGM and there were legal...

Re: Vocal Problems !
Thanks for the input. I really should have a good listen when these recordings are finally made available. I am glad to hear that she sang a phrase on the radio program - and that her voice is still in good condition. I did miss hearing that so I am happy to be able to visit this forum and be filled...

Very sorry to hear about her condition. I remember her back in the day when she was a familiar presence on many a TV talk show. When she lost her sisters and Mom and when she 'retired' I think a great deal of 'old world charm' and 'glamour' vanished from the media.
She is quite the fighter though !

Re: Your Top 5 and Bottom 5 Doris Day Leading Men
OK - Top 5 & Bottom 5 of Leading Men ! This is only my opinion friends - I sincerely hope I do not rattle any cages ! TOP 5 - 1. Gordon MacRae - Both his fine baritone singing and likeable screen presence were a perfect match for Doris. He was Doris' most frequent leading man. 2. Jack Carson - likea...

Re: Vocal Problems !
I think I should give the album a good listening once its released. I do remember the title song of the cable series------it was a good tune and it was unmistakeably Doris. Some of the other tunes she was given to sing were not very memorable tunes. I don't think they were well-written for her voice...

I am truly sorry that this marriage did not work out for Doris. I can see how happy and radiant she looks in her wedding picture. She had left show business for Carmel and it looked as if she was attempting to finally find some true happiness in her life and its sad that it did not work out for her.

I heard that Doris can no longer sing due to various allergies from the trees on her property. Its a shame though she has not sung in many years. Not since the DORIS DAY & FRIENDS series in the 1980's. At that time I noticed she was not in very good voice---------not entirely her fault. She had take...

Re: In USA - Very Tough To Hear DD Singing on RADIO
Thanks for the info. Its a shame that the current musical trends are trying to force their tastes on others. Here is a thought - perhaps one day when all of us here on this DD Forum manage to come across a large sum of money - we should pull our resources together and form a worldwide radio station ...

Paul ! I had quite forgotten about the film FLOWER DRUM SONG - entertaining film but a bit too long and the singing was not very good. Shigeta & Soo had some problems staying on 'key' when singing so I wonder why they were not dubbed when Nancy Kwan obviously was by a studio singer. Also, I have see...

I was always interested in knowing more about her. Know she worked with Doris on a few pictures at WB. Patrice could sing and dance quite well. She is the widow of actor Errol Flynn and I saw her recently on a TCM salute to her late husband so she is still around.
Any comments on her ?

Re: Please Don't Eat the Daisies
I wasn't crazy about this one. The premise was OK but there really wasn't much of a consistent plot. The show was entertaining but it just plodded along with just slightly amusing comments but not especially funny. I thought it a bit slow in parts. I think the dialogue needed some tightening in parts.

Re: April in Paris
Too bad because this did have the makings of a fine musical. Ray Bolger was totally miscast in this film. He sure could dance but was not a good partner for Doris. The bit where he danced as himself with George Washington & Abraham Lincoln was clever but his singing was poor and his acting was 'off ...

Thanks ! I did not know about Patricia Neal.

Re: Young Man With a Horn
Very dark and depressing film. Interesting but not one I wish to see again. It was quite bleak and though Doris' singing and Harry James' trumpet were grand -- I can see why she did not like making this film. She did make the most of her material. The others were excellent I would have to say. Micha...

A very entertaining though not great Doris Day film. Anything after CALAMITY JANE was bound to be a disappointment. Cummings is dubbed by the voice that WB used for Gene Nelson in other films. One can notice this when they watch LULLABY OF BROADWAY, STARLIFT, SHE'S WORKING HER WAY THROUGH COLLEGE, e...

Re: The Tunnel of Love
For me this was a boring film----nothing funny about it ! It dragged on and on------filmed on the same set throughout most of the movie. Not a good role for Doris. She acted fine but the script let her down. Total mismatch between her and Widmark---her singing was wonderful but I recall that the lat...

Very much a fun film with lots of comical complications.
Very cleverly done as well.
It was largely an ensemble type of movie with each one making fine contributions to the overall effect and it worked beautifully !

Rod Taylor has come to resemble Winston Churchill - especially in that photo. Is he portraying the famous PM ?
