Re: How many of Doris' film co-stars are still alive?
Here are some other co-stars on Doris films who are still alive --- will try to list them chronologically though I know that errors will abound. Corrections most appreciated and welcomed. Thanks In Advance. 1. Romance On The High Seas --- Janis Page & Leslie Brooks (the latter portrayed Don De Fore'...

Re: How many of Doris' film co-stars are still alive?
As of 8/2010 - these are the only Leading Men co-stars of Doris who are still with us ! I will list them in order of chronological appearance throughout her career : 1. Kirk Douglas (1950). 2. Louis Jourdan (1956). 3. James Garner (1963). 4. Rod Taylor (1965 & 1966). Total of only 4. Clarification -...

Re: Maureen O'Hara - 90 years old
Wonderful Pic of Maureen O'Hara ! Always enjoyed her work. She also had a wonderful singing voice-----recorded about 2 albums and even did a show on Broadway.....sang on a few TV specials as well but was not given any opportunities to do a movie musical. Was promised the role of ANNA in THE KING AND...

Re: THE PAJAMA GAME
I like this film---tons of fun ! However, when it comes to singing I cannot say it was a role that provided Doris with enough opportunities to do her customary beautiful ballad singing. The tunes in that show were practically all upbeat BROADWAY tunes where the words are really more important than t...

Re: Jumbo
This was Doris' final musical and a rather good one - considering that it was released in 1962 and was among the final efforts of MGM in the musical genre - one that they ruled for a long time. It is not a perfect movie. It does drag in spots----the dialogue could have used a bit more tightening. Th...

Re: Streisand Sets Another Record
I always thought that Barbra was totally miscast in HELLO DOLLY ! Carol Channing - the role's originator on Broadway - was completely disgusted that she was not even considered to play this role in the cinema. She said in a recent interview that she was actually elated when the movie version did not...

Re: Debbie Reynolds !
I heard that she does some great impersonations of many famous personalities and stars. I am glad that she is still before the public - so many of her few remaining contemporaries have completely retired so she is one of the surviving troopers.

Re: Streisand Sets Another Record
Streisand never became # 1 Movie Box Office the way that Doris held that title for several years. Also Doris had a longer and apparently more productive film career. OK - BABS won her Oscar for FUNNY GIRL - though she had to tie with Katharine Hepburn for THE LION IN WINTER but the Streisand film ca...

Re: LET THE LITTLE GIRL LIMBO
Howard - you are most fortunate to have a radio station in your area still playing the good music. I am in the NY Metro Area and there are absolutely no stations featuring Doris, Como, or anyone else for that matter ! One can spend much time going up and down those dials. The musical 'biggie' here w...

Re: Young at Heart
I thought that Doris & Frank made for a very odd pair. There was not much screen chemistry between them. Personally I have always preferred Perry Como over Frank Sinatra and thought that Doris and Perry were much more suited musically - indeed DD's 1971 TV special is a prime example of this - turned...

Debbie Reynolds !
Another contemporary of Doris' still active before the public though I believe she only had one hit record - TAMMY. There are a few parallels between Debbie and Doris. Both landed unexpectedly into the movies, both had a few marriages, and were left in financial ruin by one of their spouses. Yet bot...

The Singing Rage - Miss Patti Page !
In addition to Doris - I always enjoyed the singing of Miss Patti Page. Any other Page fans here ? She is still active - in fact, the only contemporary of Doris still singing - if I am not mistaken though I do recall that Gogi Grant appeared on a PBS salute to the 1950's TV special a few years ago -...

I read somewhere that Virginia Mayo liked Doris so I was surprised to read here differently. This I thought was a nice fun film. Pure entertainment. A good array of talent and they all did a get a chance to strut their stuff...be it singing or dancing. Yes Doris was not really the 'star' of this sho...

Re: Hello my fellow Doris fans!
Thanks for the compliment on my taste in movies ! Betty Grable is yet another star who was not truly given her due. Despite the fact she was very popular in her day - she like DD was never provided with a special OSCAR even though I think she was a presenter at the ceremonies. Carmen Miranda died al...

Any CARMEN MIRANDA fans ?
Are there any fans of the dynamic Carmen Miranda ? For me she was a most welcome and highly engaging presence - and also highly underrated as a talent. Re: Doris Day deserves an Oscar
I know how Doris feels - or at least it is totally understandable. OSCAR did not do right by her. She was nominated only once for PILLOW TALK so there were other roles in which she should have been nominated. She was another major talent such as Garland, or Betty Grable or Alice Faye who were basica...

Agreed. Question - was interested to know - when you turn on your car radio is there a decent station in your area in which you can listen to Doris or any of her contemporaries ? Re: what is your favorite season of the show ?
I liked the early seasons the best. Even the much disliked # 1 was OK. Those early seasons plus the ones with Kaye Ballard & Rose Marie were much fun. I was less impressed with the final 2 seasons. They were far too 'talky' - the script writers should have tightened up on some of the dialogue. I can...
