Re: Chatting about Doris...

Johnny, what an interesting question. I’m probably in the minority because I’m not a collector. Her movies, her music, her series - yes, I have all or nearly all of that. But I don’t care much about memorabilia like film posters, lobby cards or photos. As for the personal items in the estate sale, I...

Re: Chatting about Doris...

Peter,

Nice to hear from you.

Thank you for posting the video. It felt surreal to take a virtual tour of her home after seeing it only from a distance in the past. It was almost too much to absorb in one viewing.

Welcome back,
Michael

Re: Forum Banners 2019

The picture quality of the Pajama Game on Daily Motion is very good. The colors are vibrant and sharp. This film is as bright and bouncy as it was 60 years ago. I wish there no ads to sit through but it’s a welcome diversion from the daily headlines. Great! There aren't any ads during the film thou...

Re: Forum Banners 2019

That would be brilliant, Michael. I remember your 2018 Carmel Diary - Doris Day’s 96th Birthday, it was the next best thing to being there and greatly appreciated by those able to comment (of the 10,488 views the topic received). I think you gave me your password for posts with photos (as I suggest...

I've never seen that BW photo from what looks like a Pillow Talk photo shoot. It's really something. As Johnny said, it is "hauntingly beautiful" and I'm grateful you shared it with us, Bryan.

Good! I think we're all still coming to terms with losing Doris but time is a great healer as they say. Let's try and get through it together. I'm not focused on closing the forum right now - apart from all the logical reasons that I had, I realised after that I was also very upset - so let's see h...

Re: With Six You Get Eggroll

I certainly didn’t have the kind of longtime friendship that Paul had with Doris, but I can attest to the fact that she was direct. On the one and only phone conversation we had, the first thing she said after I introduced myself was: “Should I call you Michael or Mike?” She wanted to get it right a...

He had a wonderful, full life and he was the ideal collaborator to tell Doris' life story. She and Terry chose wisely.

RIP, Mr. Hotchner.

Re: Forum Banners 2019

Not her best comedy but how can anyone deny the pleasure of seeing Doris Day and Cary Grant together on screen? They were among a select few who could make a film watchable just by being in it. Both were blessed with inordinate charisma and the camera loved them. They didn't have much romantic chemi...

Re: Young Man With a Horn

Interesting review of this film from Jazzwise.com. Link below. “Doris Day plays the jazz vocalist Jo Jordan, a transitional part for Day in which she was switching from a big band jazz singer into the quintessential wholesome Hollywood role model of the 1950s. Being close to the bone, one suspects t...

Re: Chatting about Doris...

Wow, that's amazingly comprehensive, isn't it? But you might need more than a few $$$$$'s! I'd love to stay at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and have a tour of all the fabulous places on offer but my budget won't stretch that far. :) It's probably more manageable for those of you who live in the US - or...

Re: Forum Banners 2019

I'm getting used to the new format.

Bryan, I've noticed that WireImage, Getty Images and other stock photo providers occasionally misidentify vintage photos. But in this case, TTOM is a far cry from Sunset Boulevard, as are Doris and Cary vs. Gloria and Bill Holden.

Robert, Thank you for the vivid account of your visit to the exhibit. Your words struck a chord with me because I’ve always considered grief to be a very personal and private emotion. Re: Duet - What Happened?

Judy, thanks for your thoughtful reply. You're probably right about Miller and Melcher overlooking it, but I still wonder why Doris didn't champion this album. As someone who really knew music and respected talent like Andre Previn, she must have known their work was spectacular. The thought of Melc...

Duet - What Happened?

Why wasn't this superb acoustic jazz album more successful? It's easily one of the most intimate recordings in her repertoire and she has never been in better voice. The Andre Previn trio backs her seamlessly, the songs choices are superb, and Doris is in top form. Rhythmically, the album swings alo...

Re: Young Man With a Horn

You are so right, Judy.

The musical orchestrations are gorgeous and the songs contributed to the success of the film. I don't think there's ever been a better version of Too Marvelous For Words or With A Song In My Heart.
