Good point, Bryan.

If she did collect strays, it would be nothing to be ashamed about - ON THE CONTRARY!!!

So why should she deny it if it was true?

Her saying she doesn't do/did it therefore is absolutely believeable to me.

I believe it was 5'7". I'm at work right now and don't have any way to check.

Robert, just for future reference. Next time you have a question you should ask under the General Discussion topic, rather than just make a new one..

I just moved it here - with help from Marion. Quite a neat tool for moving a topic into one already going.

It's also sometimes worth typing the question into Google/Ask, etc:

"How tall is doris day?" brings up:
"Doris day is 5' 7" if any of you have read her biography it tells you everything about her, I'm also a huge fan of hers."

"I believe Doris was 5' 7". I'm a big fan of Doris, she always looked tall in all her movies, I just saw again "Lullaby of Broadway" she easily looks 5' 11" with heels on, next to listed 6' actor and dancer Gene Nelson, they are face to face many times dancing."

"I always thought she was tall in most of her movies. I'll watch Lover, Come Back and Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers, Thrill Of It All, and she'll always look reasonably tall next to Rock Hudson, who was a giant himself. I always thought she was at least 5' 8", and I have checked the footwear. I guess even back then they had ways of deceiving people with some serious lifts under her slippers and heels. She always seemed to be exactly eye-to-eye with 5' 8" Tony Randal."

"I'd say 5' 7" would be more accurate. That's the height listed for Doris Day in TCM's "The 50 Most Unforgettable Leading Ladies Of The Studio Era". Plus, if you compare her to Myrna Loy (her co-star in Midnight Lace), Day is definitely taller. Loy is listed at 5' 6". Also, if you compare her to Lauren Bacall (her
co-star in Young Man With A Horn), Doris is only maybe an inch, if that, shorter. Bacall was 5' 8" at the time. So, logically, Doris Day's heighth appears to be closer to 5' 7"."

"She must have been wearing some serious lifts when she was in 'Send Me No Flowers' with Rock Hudson (6' 4") AND Clint Walker (6' 6")."

"In 1969 Oakland Tribune described her "Doris maintains a constant 118 pounds on her almost 5' 6" frame"
So you can take your choice but 5' 7" seems to be the most agreed height!

I've never had to move a topic before. But I didn't want to do it, because I didn't want the mods from this certain section to get mad at me..

Didn't Doris sue the Globe for saying she was a "Bag Lady" in 1991?

The reason I was curious about Doris' height was I was trying to remember which of her co stars when being asked about throwing her over his shoulder remarked that "Doris was a big broad"!

I think she did say that she was going to sue them . I remember that nasty article very well. I think they revoked it and she never sued..not postive but I think that's what I remember.

Carol, yes that's more or less what happened, the threat of legal proceedings led to a retraction.

Robert - I think that was Rock [in Doris' book]. Doris has also said things like 'he [Rock] had a bad back...' [and needed a harness in Pillow Talk for that scene 'carrying me around....'

Babe - Love your avatar!

This is what I came up with following on from our discussion about the negative media reporting on Doris. (Another front page Globe story today)

Debbi, she was going to sue them. But they printed a retraction article and said they were sorry, so she dropped charges..

Thanks, Carol - any other comments?

Marti - I wouldn't bother. Someone sent it to me today and I wish they hadn't - it just made me angry - it's the same or similar 'snatched' photo already published except it's a big close-up of her face and she looks to me like someone being hounded. It's a real invasion of privacy. I urge people not to look at it or buy it - it's just playing into the media game.

That's great, Bryan.

If any change at all I would maybe further stress that she is not a recluse but in vital contact with friends, fans, animal welfare supporters and even still goes public - If "only" via radio.

By the way, you got a double "to"in one sentence - "to to further" ;)

It's gone - real gone, man! 8)

At least we 'had our say' - it won't make a blind bit of difference to printed toilet paper like The Globe but I think it's good that we express our viewpoint and defend Doris.

I've published it on the main site, submitted to Google, sent it off to one free press release website - will do more as I find time.

If anyone can help, that would be great - you can copy the text and submit to websites displaying critical/innacurate reports of Doris - let's just try and get it out there - use your imagination - can also be sent to newspapers. This reporting is going to continue so we are probably looking at months of it.

Thanks !
