I just heard a dance version that I really liked and some other people singing it.

Thank you Mary Anne for replying to my post. I always believed Billy was a gentleman, and an entertaining fellow to be around. It is just often in these matters, the cure comes from the person's belief, and without identifying w/ Jesus there is no cure. Could Doris have been trying to save Billy's soul? I mean, it certainly seems plausible.

Maybe Billy was the one who decided he wanted to go and see Kathryn.

To change the subject for a minute, I just replied to a blog suggesting that Nat King Cole had 'sold out' his jazz credentials by making 'pop' records and saying:

"Among his generation's singers, only Doris Day, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin equaled his multimedia success. And excepting Doris Day, Cole was arguably the squarest of the bunch."

When I returned home last evening the local Public Broadcasting System (PBS) station was running a special called "The Big Band Years". It was hosted by Peter Marshall. I watched for two reasons. 1) because I like Big Band music, especially Glenn Miller. and 2) I knew at some point they'd cover Les Brown's band. They did and there was a really nice segment by Doris, talking about her song "Sentimental Journey". About 5 minutes long.

Here in Holland is a new book on the markt, about Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Edith Piaf, DORIS DAY, The Andrew Sisters, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Domino, en Bill Haley, etc....with 4 CD's .
I can't find any information about it on the internet It's calling "Unforgettable" a unique book/cd combination.
it's my birthday present, and they did hidden it.
For the Dutch fans, they did buy it by Primera.

It's a present for my birthday, so I have to wait for that present till that time.

Hey everyone, what's up? I was wondering how many of Doris' movies have you all seen? You don't need to name them all out, just give a number.. I've seen 36. That makes me sad, I only have 3 left

I watched 38 out of her 39 films!! I guess I'll have to watch them all again!

I think Starlift is the only one I haven't seen.

I've seen all 39 several times....unbelieveable that Doris made 39 movies in 20 years and recorded in between - talk about a worker!

Just wonder "IF" Marty had not been wheeling and dealing all the time, would she have made so many in such a short time? If all the decisions were left up to Doris, I wonder how many movies we would have had? Wonder if she would have declined some roles? Just curious????

Yes Mary-Anne, good question.

I'd say if Doris had been in control, she would definately [and naturally] have done less films.

I think it is a safe bet she would have turned down flat Caprice, Where were you..., Ballad of Josie and Do not Disturb!

She didn't want to do "Midnight Lace" either because of the experience of doing "Julie".

But I've just remembered that there were a few films she wanted to do that she didn't get ("South Pacific" because Melcher asked for too much money - ironic given it was all stolen from her anyway. "The Sound of Music", I heard, which would have made it a very different film. You could argue that had she made the films that SHE wanted to, her career may have finished very differently and perhaps continued. I think she got fed up with making so-so films and lost trust in those advising her.

I still have a couple of films to see....

Starlift was the one remaining I hadn't seen, but thanks to the latest box set, I've now seen them all.

It's a great question about Doris' choices if she had been the sole decider. But, sadly, we would have missed out on The Man Who Knew Too Much then. Marty really talked her into doing that one.

I still need to see Midight Lace, Caprice, The Ballad of Josie, Tea for Two, and I have to finish Where Where You When The Light's When Out along with Julie.

Tea For Two was on TCM not that long ago, The Ballad Of Josie is on AMC quite frequently, and I think Julie was on last August on Doris Day day on TCM with the summer of the stars thing.

I taped half of Julie but since I had taped all of her movies that day I didn't have enough room I guess for that one all the way. It was getting so exciting too!!

The Ballad Of Josie is the only one I have not seen. I hope AMC will play it again soon!
It's not on DVD in the USA.
