Yes Melancholy-

Shame he and Doris disagreed the way they did in her book - for it is obvious from Young Man..., various pictures, her radio show and the TV clip on the forum - they were close in the 1950s and each had a sparkle in their eyes- they were a very sexy couple [separately of course]!

Both made of good stern stock!

That might have had something to do with Kirk's business dealings with Marty, Jas, my other thought is about the thin dividing line between love and hate, it's a strong reaction either way - his wife looks a Doris Day type - my Freudian take on it is that they were both attracted to one another but also both married.

Great photo, that last one, puck, anyone know what the event was? I can spot Natalie Wood and Tony Perkins to the left of Doris. At the back, Kirk, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh, Debbie Reynolds and Louella Parsons (?) next to her.

Both photos were taken at the Modern Screen Awards of 1956. The show was telecast live on America's "Ed Sullivan Show." Here's a link to the video:

Like Irene Dunne done.

Bryan- an awful lot of looks and whispering, and smiles from DD and KD - they were [at least] very comfortable and friendly with each other!

Peter Graves DD's co-star in Ballad of Josie dies at 83 March 14th.
In 2009 he was honored with the star on the Hollywood Walk of fame.

As of 8/2010 - these are the only Leading Men co-stars of Doris who are still with us !
I will list them in order of chronological appearance throughout her career :
1. Kirk Douglas (1950).
2. Louis Jourdan (1956).
3. James Garner (1963).
4. Rod Taylor (1965 & 1966).
Total of only 4.
Clarification - can Steve Forrest be possibly considered a leading man for Doris ? He appeared with her in the film IT HAPPENED TO JANE though it was actually Jack Lemmon who was the co-star and who wound up with Doris even though Steve Forrest had much interest in her character. Steve is still around.

Here are some other co-stars on Doris films who are still alive --- will try to list them chronologically though I know that errors will abound. Corrections most appreciated and welcomed. Thanks In Advance.
1. Romance On The High Seas --- Janis Page & Leslie Brooks (the latter portrayed Don De Fore's incompetent and flirtatious secretary -the one typing with one finger !)
2. My Dream Is Yours - I think the boy who portrayed her son might still be around though I found no listing of him online.
3. Its A Great Feeling - Eleanor Parker & Patricia Neal.
4. Young Man With A Horn - Kirk Douglas & Lauren Bacall. I believe the lad who played Kirk as a youth is still alive according to the Hollywood website. He was born in the 1930's.
4. Tea For Two/Starlift/Ill See You In My Dreams - Patricia Wymore.
5. On Moonlight Bay/By The LIght of The Silvery Moon - Billy Gray.
6. Calamity Jane - Allyn McLerie.
7. Lucky Me - Martha Hyer & Angie Dickinson (OK - she was an extra there but still------)
8. Young At Heart - Dorothy Malone.
BTW - I am doing this by memory so please correct me if I leave anyone out.....some of the names I do not know-----they did not become famous names.
9. Julie - Louis Jourdan and the actress who portrayed Doris' co-worker--also a stewardess - again I don't know her name.
10. The Man Who Knew Too Much - ????????
11. Pajama Game-------??????????
12. Tunnel of Love------??????/
13. It Happened To Jane----Steve Forrest.
14. Pillow Talk---????
15. Please Don't Eat The Daisies--------------The Kids and Janis Page.
16. Lover Come Back-Ann B. Davis.
17. Jumbo-----John Astin ????
18. Touch of Mink------John Astin.
19. Midnight Lace---John Gavin (?)
I know I am getting off sequence here........
Trying to give myself a MEMORY COURSE ! (LOL !) I know I have also omitted quite a number of films in which I don't think anyone but Doris survives----Storm Warning, The Winning Team, April In Paris, etc.
20. Starlift---Ron Haggerthy & Virginia Gibson. Some of the tinier roles have some survivors.
21. Thrill of It All------Elliot Reid, Carl Reiner, and the children. I think the actress playing Jim Garner's Medical Secretary is still around. Don't know her real name---the character's name is Miss Thompson.
22. Move Over Darling---John Astin, Polly Bergen, and the children.
23. Send Me No Flowers--Clint Walker.
24. Do Not Disturb----Sergio Fantoni. In addition to Rod Taylor I don't believe that any of the other prominent supporting players are still around. Leon Askin lived to a ripe old age - (almost 100 !) in his native Vienna.
25. Glass Bottom Boat- only Taylor and I think an actress named Dee Dee Thompson (?) We lost DeLuise and Martin quite recently.
26. Caprice----????????
27. Where Were You When The Lights Went Out ? ---- I think Robert Morse and Lola Albright. Can't recall the others.
28. With Six You Get Eggroll-----Pat Carroll, Jamie Farr, William Christopher, Barbara Hershey, John Findlater, and the younger children.
Again this is all off the top of my head.........The sequence is slightly messy and some of the names do escape me.
Thanks!

Rod Taylor has come to resemble Winston Churchill - especially in that photo. Is he portraying the famous PM ?

Rod Taylor did portray Winston Churchill in "Inglorious Basterds." Loved this film ... one of the best of the century, methinks!
