BUT....the record was played several times in an old Margaret O'Brien film (I forgot the name) and also in an episode of MASH on tv.

Didn't Maureen O'Hara star in a 1940s film titled 'Sentimental Journey'?

Speaking of old films, has anyone seen:

Image

I downloaded it a few weeks ago and I thought it would be very out-of-date, having been released in 1947, but it was fresh and delightful. I enjoyed it more than "Avatar" (2010) - also very good - but somehow I prefer the old films. The ones Doris used to make! :)

But "The Bishop's Wife" reminded me of films I watched on TV with my parents on a Sunday afternoon. Cary Grant as an angel is the star, as always, David Niven as the bishop sucks up to a local rich woman to get money for a new church - and Loretta Young, as his understanding wife is great. I wish they still made them like that!

Bryan

I adore The Bishop's wife - and don't know why [through the years] it has not gained the cult status of It's a Wonderful Life.

This film is perfect Christmas viewing - or any time viewing!

Unfortunately, it was remade as 'The Preacher's wife' with Whitney Houston (From memory) - as is most often the case, they should have left a classic alone!

I agree with you, Jas! I love the original "Preacher's Wife"!

However, I must admit that I enjoyed the remake, mainly because of the music (I am a big gospel music fan, and Whitney could definitely sing gospel music!! :)).

Hope you're having a lovely "Day"! :)

God Bless,
Rachel

I too love "The Bishop's WIfe. I watch it every year rather than "It's a Wonderful Life. It is Cary Grant as his very best.

I do not like the remake, because usually they are much worse than the originals. This is just my personal opinion  I'm not a fan of Whitney, but I love gospel music, especially how he sings it wonderfully Mahalia Jackson, the woman was created to sing gospel music :D I watched the remake of this film and it was nice, but prefer the original :D I love old movies :D :!:

I cordially greet :D Ania

I just had Doris' "Que Sera, Sera, Whatever Will Be Will Be..." blasting out at me from a TV avert. It seemed to go on for awhile with no indication of what was being advertised and then it the CSI logo came up, "SNAPPED: Women who kill!" !

I've lost track of the ads who use her music - another recent one was "Woops!" for some pads to keep women 'dry'! :)

I can't work out if this is a joke or not - just came across it for the second time:

What do you think? I was shocked the first time but this time (read the 4 pages) it seemed like a sick spoof - Down syndrome is a lifestyle choice! etc

Yes, it's definately a p**s take:
Re: POLL: what facilities are looking forward to in Heaven?
"I figure since I love the smell of barbecue chicken, the aroma of the damned all burning in Hell at once will be most pleasing to my purified, heavenly nostrils."

"I'm hoping that there is a nice hunting lodge. I imagine that one could participate in any kind of hunt, and have access to any weapon imaginable. There would be an annex to a weapon room and an armory.
Hopefully there is a fancy BBQ next door to cook all of your game. Just think, we could go hunting with the sure to be SAVED™ Dick Cheny and not have to wear a bullet proof vest! Also there would no limit to the spotted owls or condors we could shoot since there won't be any damned liberals in Heaven to screw things up!"

I don't think it's a joke, but I also can't believe that someone thinks this way. It's just absurd! I try to understand what kind of God they believe. I don't think we should even comment about this. It's just not worth it!

I don't think they believe in a God - it's just an outrageous wind-up. Why they choose Doris and Betty White, who knows? - maybe it's a perverse acknowledgement that they represents what is good in the world?

I just checked out the first page of posts and man, these people are warped. They are not true Christians. I am a Christian and I do not wish death on anyone or make homophobic remarks (my mom and youngest brother are gay, but even before I found this out in the last few years, I never said or thought such horrible things). These people remind me of that embarrassing Kansas church led by Fred Phelps. Christians are accepting of everyone, even though people may not believe in what they do. I was just like, Oh wow.

I do not want to come across judging these people because that is up to God, but I just wanted to give my thoughts on them.

Bryan,
This latest top is disgusting...why are we giving them print space? I am not upset with you or others, but just think this should be deleted - more people will be tempted to read it and go on and on about them...it was out there for some hours, now let's bury it (them). Thank you. Appreciate ALL you do for us.

I still love London after all this time - it's a long way from Indiana though, :) which has been in the news over here a lot recently - floods, hurricanes or other natural disasters, like many parts of the US we hear about.
Have you been affected? Hope not - Doris would miss another promoter!
