"In June 2010, Discovering Doris - link below - reported how Ms Day’s new album will feature “previously unreleased” songs which she cut after a brief return to the recording studio during the mid-1980s.
.......
Ms. Day was fully involved in the music selections for her new release which is notably her first for over 17 years to actually feature new studio recordings (the last being “The Love Album“). As well as the eighties recordings which we know you are going to absolutely adore there is also a studio recording which was cut for one of Day’s 1970s US TV specials plus a trio of other DD classics from the vaults at Columbia."
I certainly intend to order too Howard. So glad 'You are so beautiful' has been included. Pity they also didn't inlcude 'The Way we were' from the 1975 special.
I think it should be interesting to see (or rather hear) if the re-mastering has improved the overall quality of the 1985 recordings- not Doris' voice - for this was always sterling and even with less than great material - the quality of the vocals shines through!
This is so exciting! I'm definitely ordering it. It's nice that it's getting some publicity. It's the fourth most popular story on Spinner, right between stories about Katy Perry and Amy Winehouse, and has 2,000 Facebook likes. http://www.spinner.com/2011/06/02/doris ... -my-heart/
I hope this isn't the finished cover - with all the wonderful photos available of Doris.
I'm surprised - or maybe not! - that you've got all the tracks already, Howard. Is the track with Previn (from "Duet", I presume) another version of the album track?
I, too, have all the tracks except the new one with Terry. MY HEART is a song written especially for the BEST FRIENDS SHOWS.
They wisely omitted some of the songs from BF that were not so great (CROCODILE ROCK/RESCUE ME/STEWBALL). I will be anxious to see how they have cleaned up the backgrounds, which were not so good.
I suspect getting the rights to release her brilliant cover of "The Way We Were" may have been too costly so it did not make the final cut. Just a guess. The one cut from the mid 80's that I miss seeing is her version of "Wildfire" which I remember being quite lovely. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the track listing and I'm anxious to hear the remastering of the original recordings. Hopefully, Sony and Doris will promote it sufficiently so that it charts in the UK and we will get a US release at some point.
Bryan, thanks a bunch for posting a picture of the album cover. I tried to post the image from Image Shack but wasn't able to figure out how to do it on my MAC. Very frustrating.
I tried to make yours visible, John - normally you just select the url and click the Img button above but it didn't stay visible for some reason. The one above is a screen capture from DD's website. Cheers!
I'm very excited about this new cd. I like the cover though I also found the pink title hard-to-read.
Is there anywhere where I can hear "Crocodile Rock" or "Wildfire"?
I recall "The Way We Were" was included on one of the greatest hits. Is that right? I know I have it (it's one of my favorites from DD) but it was a digital download. So I'm not sure if it was ever released on cd. Anyone know?
I guess I was the only one that didn't like the cover. I just don't know why! Oh well...
I was going to say this. They probably didn't put "The Way We Were" in the album because it was already released. But not in the US or any other place. I have the song here, but I found somewhere around the internet. http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Doris-Day/dp/B000LE1EUK
I was under the impression that SONY was going to release two Doris Day recordings this year: the My Heart collection from the unreleased tracks that were originally recorded in the mid-1980's and a boxed set release of Doris' personal favorites throughout her entire recording career.
YOU ARE NOT DREAMING (CHECK OUT THE INFO ON WWW.DORISDAY.COM)
I do not know for sure, but methinks the boxed collection will come out for Christmas time buying!
I've got a feeling that Sony won't be releasing the "My Heart" cd in the U.S.A. I imagine anyone around the world who wants to have it will order it from Amazon UK, so why would they bother to release it here? Doesn't really make good business sense.
Maybe Sony don't realise how many fans Doris has in the US / outside of Europe? Most of the folk who visit this forum and dorisday.net are from the US. Seems like you are all under-represented when it comes to new releases - perhaps someone should lobby Sony for a US release?
