Thanks so much Howard. Great pics.

She was really happy, contented and enjoying her life in Beverly Hills. I think, for the first time, she was doing what she enjoyed doing, when she wanted to do it. In the 40's with the Band there were pressures and obligations and from the time she signed with Warners in 1947 - enormous demands for rehearsals, filming, photo shoots, appearances and in between, recording for Columbia. From 1968 until 1973, there was the series and all the work that entailed. I'm not saying she didn't enjoy her work, but after the series ended, she really blossomed socially. She attended the opening of "Last Tango in Paris" with Billy DeWolfe and was photographed with Mae West. She attended the opening of Ross Hunter's "Lost Horizon" and really knocked herself out for Actors and Others and loved it. Besides "Benji", she attended the opening of "Once is Not Enough" in 1975 and the Thalians, "Good News", a trip to England, etc. With the exception of doing John Denver's special and her own, and working days with A.E. Hotchner, she was really able to enjoy life in Los Angeles.

My opinion only, but had she not met and married Barry, I think she'd have continued spending much of her time in Beverly Hills and would probably have occasionally accepted one of the more than 150 offers of work she received between 1974 and 1996. (They continued after but the bulk were in that 22 year period).

To that list of notable outings in 1973-1975 I should probably include her attendance and participation at the AFI Tribute to James Cagney in 1974. She also accompanied Ross Hunter to the opening of "I Do I Do" which marked Rock Hudson's stage debut. Rock later wrote very movingly about Doris and her attendance at the opening for Ladies Home Journal.

PS.
And Bryan thank you again on the great job you did in framing the last banner.

Doris seems very amused by the goings-on of Zsa Zsa!

Think you're right, Barbara, Thanks Puck and yes, Dave, the great Eydie Gorme - 'Blame it on the Bosa Nova', love that, and her music generally, love all that Bosa Nova stuff.

Doris has met EVERYONE, hasn't she? (Except the Queen. :) )

So Bryan, when do you think you could arrange this meeting? Should be interesting. The queen on England,
and the queen of Hollywood, finally meet up!! Hey and there about the same age.

Wow, that is excellent, Barbara! The Queen of England and The Queen of Hollywood (in our eyes), as you say. What a great match you've made of the photos. I love them both - maybe Doris a bit more!

(I have to be diplomatic, otherwise I could end up in The Tower, which is only a couple of miles away, so I have to be careful.)

Minor point: Looks like the two photos at the top of this page are not from the same event -- different earrings and different dress.

You are right. The one with Allen Ludden is indeed at the Thalian's Ball celebrating Lucille Ball. The other picture is from the opening of "Good News" in Los Angeles. This stage revival starred Alice Faye and John Payne and Miss Day took her mother to the show. Miss Day's picture later appeared on the cover of Hollywood Studio Magazine, waving a small flag that said "Good News".

It was around the same time period as the Thalians and the two dresses were designed by the same designer, thus their similarity.
