The black and white photos with her at her bar does seem to be the home on 713 N. Crescent Drive in Beverly Hills, CA. I think the photos appear to be the era right before It Happened to Jane. It looks like she just put the bar in, and was having a "bar warming" of some sorts? She is holding the ice-bucket and pointing, as if saying "you got this for me". I loved these photos with the home black and white photos on the wall. there is a later color photo of her at the bar that looks updated, with Jack Lemmon.

Thanks for that, Toby.

Yes, I love B&W photos too - but I also love mad colour: :)

Trying for the Disney effect there!
Thanks to HeckYeahDorisDay: http://heckyeahdorisday.tumblr.com/ for the original.

I'm not going to focus on particular films for awhile - just random films and images so that I won't have to nag people about keeping to the topic.

Okay. How/where can I find the beautiful black and white photo from the banner yesterday? Is it still on the website?

One more black and white and then images from Puck and Barbara.

Image

Rehearsing 'Julie' - Doris and Louis Jourdan, overseen by husband-manager, Martin Melcher.

Image

Louis and Doris became very close during the making of 'Julie' - Jourdan saying that he didn't like Melcher and he was surprised to discover that Doris didn't either!

This is also the film where Doris became ill and Marty didn't want her to see a doctor because of their Christian Science beliefs. She later had to seek medical help and they discovered she had a large tumor, the removal of which, and further surgery, resulted in her not being able to have any more children - making it a very tough time for her.

Great shot from filming of Julie- is that a drinks carton or packet of cigs passing between DD and LJ?

I wondered that, Jas! I zoomed in and no ciggie in Doris' hand - that's the pic without Marty - looks like there's one in the banner image - it could be a carton! I think I might have seen her smoking in on-set photos during this film.

I wondered why Doris so ill that she could not have more children, now I know... Maybe if Doris had gone to the doctor sooner, it would be able to have more children, and would not suffer? Melcher believe that God can heal the disease through their prayer. Christian Science sounds like a bit of a sect, but I can I be wrong? Banner wonderful as always, thanks guys Ania

You're not wrong Ania! But I think it was Doris who introduced Marty to Christian Science - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Science - and he became more of a believer than she was!

I don't know if they still disapprove of doctors?

Great Banner Bryan, to answer your question Jas, I did remember she was holding a carton of milk, but I had to find the photo. Kind of makes sense, since she was experiencing bad stomach pain at the time.

If I'm not mistaken, it's probably second husband George Weidler Melcher introduced to Christian Science?
As for the film itself, I really like it here Doris, looks wonderful

Good detective work, Barbara! Nice pics, Dorine, and Ania, you're right again, it was George Weidler.
(Doris Day) Marriages - Number 2: George Weidler (a saxophonist), from March 30, 1946 - May 31, 1949. Weidler and Day met again several years later. During a brief reconciliation, he helped introduce her to Christian Science. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doris_Day and elsewhere.

Thanks for that, George!

Really like the photos you all post. This is the first time I've seen the one above, which I believe was taken at the premiere of "Julie" on Oct. 4, 1956 in Cincinnati. (Note the microphone from station WLW, where Doris first sang on the radio.)

I just downloaded the image - if you look at the whole pic, Marty is in the centre, waving - almost as if he's the star! :)

Interesting pic, Dorine - wonder what Julie would have been like in Technicolor?

Another from Puck - no wonder Doris doesn't like flying!
