Puck and Barbara, you're being far too modest! You've done all the creative work and I just played around with it.
This is from Barbara:
And below is from me - in this case I'm going to ask you to do the work and fill in the details of the "Sour Apple Awards” given to Doris in 1954, 1962 and 1964 by the Hollywood Women's Press Club.
Why was Doris given them and what going on at the time(s).
Re: the details of the Sour Apple Awards -- The 1954 "award" came on the heels of her self-described 1953 breakdown. In her memoir, Doris recounts that this malady began while visiting her son at the Boy Scout jamboree (which was held July 17-23, 1953) and she also says that she "cancelled all recording dates, interviews, and publicity activities" for several weeks. In fact, there is a report that these cancellations extended into the filming dates of "Lucky Me," which occurred in late 1953 to early 1954, so that likely explains the 1954 Sour Apple. As to the 1962 and 1964 Sour Apples, I wonder how big a part Marty Melcher played in the press's perception that DD was uncooperative during that time.
Do you think Marty was uncooperative or do you think he was saying that she was? I thought he loved the publicity.
Did she have problems during the filming of TTOM, Jumbo or MOD? I understand the 1954, but don't get the other two. hmmmmm
Yes, I do think that Melcher knew the value of publicity and that he wanted it. I didn't mean to say that he told the press that Doris was uncooperative. From reports I've read, it was HE who was uncooperative by being so controlling -- for instance, restricting the topics that could be discussed and wanting final approval of a story before it could be printed. My impression is that she was always more cooperative than he.
And yes, there were domestic problems in 1962. Their separation occurred after Jumbo was filmed, and (according to various reports) they were still separated during much of the filming of The Thrill of It All. Don't know what might have influenced the 1964 Sour Apple.
I would bet that she was way more cooperative than he was. I didn't realize that they were seperated for so long. Maybe the broken rib in MOD and just trying to get back to some type of life after the seperation had taken it's toll on both of them. Marriage is tough enough for us mere mortals when we want to be there, let alone when you aren't happy with the arrangement, and you are one of the biggest stars on the PLANET!!
Hard to believe she has been through so much and has maintained through the years. What a woman.
Thanks as always, it is a really nice film to watch and very touching in parts - although hard to see how she was attracted to the Gig Young character.
Just wondering, where is Dorine? (One of our chicks has gone missing! )
Bryan, love this colorful, happy banner - Doris looks great - always love her great smile - she looks so happy here and that is the way I remember her.
Happy SUnday...thanks for the banner.

Love this Banner, and the movie. Doris character in the movie "Laurie," is happy and outgoing, kind of what Doris really is like in real life. Kind of wished she had ended up with Alex instead of Barney.
Here is a scene of Doris singing," Hold Me In Your Arms" ♪ ♫
Love this banner, and I too have to say. "So glad you showed the whole picture." I remember a comment form Ray Bolger in the movie "April In Paris." Wow what a built"!!
Bryan,
Have to agree, this is a great banner. Haven't seen this before. Love the banner and especially the shoes. Don't know how she maintained her feet with all of the abuse from dancing and shoes that appear to be metal! Superwoman for sure! Thanks once again. Have a good rest of your week.
