Three Wishful Thinking Questions For Doris

Unread post by Johnny »

I thought it would be fun for fans to pose three questions to Doris if there was the chance to ask her.

Mine are:
1. What are any three must-see films that you would recommend?

2. Where have you travelled in Canada?

3. What current songs and singers do you admire?

Now that you've been photographed, and we see how lovely you look, will you finally accept that Honorary Oscar?

Loved your rendition of "Can't Help Lovin That Man." Are there any more unreleased goodies in store for us?

Since you started out as a dancer, do you watch the television shows "So You Think You Can Dance," and "Dancing with the Stars?"
Like Irene Dunne done.

Interesting. Mine would all be film related if I only had 3 questions:

Which of your films are you most proud of?

Which of your films would you rather forget?

Do you have any regrets about your career as an actress or - what would you do differently if you had the chance to do it all again?

Who were some actresses (not actors) you particularly liked working with?

What kind of reading do you enjoy?

Do you still knit?

I love all of Howard's inspired questions.

Here are a few more that come to mind:

What is the most important lesson you learned about acting?

What do you think about when you are recording a song?

Name your personal top 10 favorites from your recording catalog.

Name 10 songs that you wished you had recorded but didn't.

Name 5 lyricists and composers whose material you would like to record but didn't.

Name a few current performers who have the potential to achieve the kind of enduring appeal you have enjoyed.

Name 5 Doris Day films that you would place in a time capsule.

If you were to approve a feature film based on your life story, who would you want to play Doris Day and why?

1. It was fabulous to see you on your 90th birthday Doris, now that you've appeared again in public so to speak [and looked great by the way]- is there any chance that the right interviewer or the right script could get you before the camera again?

2. Would you consider doing a voice over for a disney-like / animation film Doris?

3. You have talked recently about missing LA - can you be more specific regarding what you miss and if you made the trip to LA again, what would you like to do/ where would you like to visit?

This thread makes me wish she would write an addendum to her book. We now have, what, some 38 years about which she has said very little in print. The question that Jas asked about LA could generate an entire chapter. All proceeds could go to the DDAF, naturally. I'm doubtful this will happen but I think it would really sell.

Bryan, maybe I should have been more specific. I meant all that banner talk and hardly anything else!

Oh, I see. The banners topic has a life of it's own but at the moment there's a discussion about behind the scenes on 'Julie'.

I usually follow new topics. Something like this is ideal for getting people talking, perhaps people should start topics like this more often?

I liked Renie's question 'Do you still knit?' :)

As Michael is allotting himself more questions, I'll permit myself one more:

Doris, would you like to go out on a date?

I think Jas1's question regarding Doris doing a voice-over for an animated film is terrific. The sound of Doris' speaking voice is always melodious and her singing voice is that of an angel.

Her voice work in doing the commercials in the hilarious and smart The Thrill Of It All is joyous. I could hear Doris in the voice of a young deer, a sly sassy cat, a fun-loving dog, or a strong, independent young woman who loves to sing, or perhaps a flower like a daisy.

Let's hope someone will offer the opportunity to Doris. I listened to her recent interview with TCM's Robert Osborne, and her voice was gracious, soothing and sweet as ever.

Great idea Jas1.

Thanks Jonny, I've thought about that for a long time- Julie Andrews said one of her grandchildren loves the fact she was in an animated Disney- not sure which one, but the grand daughter got more from this than from Mary Poppins!

That is a great idea. It would be wonderful if Disney or another major studio found a memorable animated character for her to voice. She could do all of the recording from her home in Carmel too.

She would be perfect in a voice-over; besides her great diction and vocal expression, she is also a really good mimic.

QUESTIONS FOR DORIS:
1. yOU HAVE SAID a lot about your costars in the movies. How about a few words for some of your costars on recrords: Buddy Clark, Johnnie Ray, Robert Goulet, Guy Mitchell, Frankie Laine, Donald O'Connor???
2. Regarding songs you never recorded...How in the world did you miss the songs of Stephen Sondheim?
3. How come there was only ever one duet with Frank Sinatra (which hit the Top 20)?

I could ask 50 more buy you did say 3. :o

Doris, I know you have stated that you would have loved to have made a movie with Clint Eastwood. What type movie would you have liked to have starred in with him? also would you have taken the part, kind of like the roll Meryl Streep played, "Bridges Of Madison County?
Also what movie would you have loved to have starred in but didn't?
Of all your wonderful co-stars, which one did you enjoy the love scenes the most with?
( I have always wanted to ask her that in private, maybe I will one day, )
One more, of all the guys you have dated through the years who was the most romantic?
(These are all girl questions, sorry guys)

Re the voice-over suggestion - I'm surprised you're trying to find work for a woman in her nineties!

What is the age of retirement in the US? Over here it's 65! She doesn't need the money so why would she go back to work at this stage in her life? I suspect it might be fantasy but let's have a reality check here!

Great questions Howard and Mikey.

Bryan- the voice over [of course] is a nice fantasy- however, it would be perfect [as noted by Michael] - Doris could do all the work from home where she has been more than happy to do radio interviews.

Oh, so you just want her to work from home then?
(Which is what I do now and if I'm still doing it when I'm 90, I'll probably kill myself.)
What if she lost her state pension because of extra income earnings?
See - you're all just not thinking this through!

1. Did you ever want to, or have the chance, to record with Sinatra after the Hit Parade days?

2. Who was your favorite arranger?

3. What was the session like when you made the "Duet" album with Previn?
