Thanks Barbara - appreciate that. I was aware when I did that banner that it would be the first that didn't feature Doris (I added the small pic of her later). I was going to mention that - perhaps I should have done, it might not have been such a surprise to people. :)

I liked the video - also noticed there is an interesting one of the real Calamity Jane after it:

I don't think she had the fun Doris had in the film version! Rather a sad story.

Thanks Bryan for the video of the real Calamity Jane, haven't seen that before, I noticed it never stated if she was ever married, although it shows a picture of her daughter, I knew she was real good friends with Wild Bill but in the movie it shows Calamity and Bill married at the end, I guess I need to pull up all the story on her real life. Love the bright and shiny banner, you have to admit Doris on her worst day look far better than the real Calamity on her best day.

Before we get completely away from Calamity Jane, I would like to mention a very interesting coincidence I ran into last night. I was flipping TV channels and came upon the Smithsonian Channel which just happened to be doing a show on the Dakota Territory in the early American west. It covered the building of the railroad, 2 famous people who lived there in Deadwood (guess who) and that they are buried in the cemetary there), Statehood in 1889, etc, etc. It also included some scenes of Deadwood as it is today.

I'd like to add that I really enjoy all the banners. My personal favorite ones are those done in their original black and white or their original color but I do not wish to stifle anyone's artistic talents.

Great photo, Dorine - hadn't seen that one before - thanks.

Renie, if you watch that video above (assuming you haven't) you'll see Calam & Wild Bill buried next to one another. It's not clear if he returned her affections - it doesn't sound like it!

Thanks for feedback on banners. I know what you are saying but sometimes an image gets so familiar that there doesn't seem any point in using it unless you add something new.

Speaking of which, here's a banner from Barbara:

Very nice banner. Some from her TV Specials would be good too. Maybe one with John Denver. Loved the sunshine songs they did together:) For the people in my building I show classic movies once a week They Loved Doris modeling in her first TV Special.

Barbara - Lovely banner.....absolutely beautiful. My dear friend Sydney Guilaroff did the hairstyle for Miss Day for "Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?" - and loved working with her at MGM, dating all the way back to "Love Me or Leave Me".

Thanks so much everyone, for your nice comments. And Paul I always enjoy hearing about your information you give on our pictures and banners. I really love this cute hair style on her, was something a little different from her short bob, but you have to admit she look great in almost any hair style. And a big thanks to Bryan who always makes our banners look great.

The sky is actually this blue in London at the moment, it's been like summer for the past few days - the kind of global warming I like! This image matches the weather we're having. 8)

Alan, I've moved your post as I don't think we should get it mixed up with talking about banners. Thanks.

Thanks Puck - so did you! :)

It's a timeless image, I think. That 'look' would still be fashionable today, wouldn't it?

A timeless image. Puck also put together a couple of pages of images of Doris on "Who knows what might have been" About movies past, and broadway plays, with Doris in the starring role. Hope it is alright to post it here. I I was just amazed with what she put together if you want to check it out.

A very clever compilation from Puck! And DD's rendition of "Who Knows What Might Have Been" is just fabulous. Nobody has ever sung it as well.

Thank you so much for the fantastic , "Who Know What Might Have Been". It was such a pleasure to read.

I have always thought Doris would have been perfect for the role of Beth in Ordinary People. Mary Tyler Moore was terrific. Doris has so much serious depth as an act4ress e.g The Man Who Knew Too Much. It would have been wonderful for her and her fans to see more of this.
