Thanks, Tybear. :)

Lauren, I hear what you are saying, but I'm not going to change the banner now for the reasons I explained earlier, otherwise I'll be spending too much time on them again. But feel free not to like one or two!

This is the best I can do for now - from Puck - maybe someone else has some colour pics from Julie with the coast in them?

Great Julie banner Bryan! I wonder if they were discussing scene choices they were playing. I find the photograph interesting with Marty hovering over them. The look on Doris' face is serious and she appears to be listening intently. I can't figure out what Louis Jordan is holding in his hand. Doris is gesturing with her hand. Interesting.

The bluish - gray colour is consistent with the mood of the film. The beauty of the ocean is in contrast with the tension in the film scene.

Thank you.
Johnny

Lauren, I did try and add color to the above picture, but this is one where color did not want to take to well, especially the faces, have to say Bryan's black and white is far more superior, in that it seems to show details of the picture more, especially their faces.

I like that, Barbara. 8)

And thanks, Johnny. I think you're right, they were obviously discussing the scene they were about to do. I read that Marty got a bit jealous because Doris and Louis got on so well together. Can't say I blame him!

Very nice banner, Bryan. I just got home today from a quick visit to Carmel. That coastline -- like Doris -- is gorgeous, even in black & white photos. (Re: the previous banner, I didn't notice what the difference was at first.)

Thank you Howard and Bryan for an incredibly beautiful and thought provoking banner. When I look at this banner I think of the countless hours of pleasure and dreaming that the songs of Doris and Barbra having given so many fans.

With respect to Doris I think of her songs with Dream in the title. Her voice has a dream-like quality. The banner evokes a feeling of twilight when we think about what the night will bring. e.g. perhaps a harvest moon, a romantic evening, watching the moon and the stars, going for an evening walk and maybe sitting back and relaxing, listening to Doris and\or Barbra sing.

Thank you again.

Doris and Barbra is a brilliant singer, but have completely different voices. Doris has a warm and sensual voice. Barbra is not very pretty, but when she sings it then becomes beauty. When I listen to Doris and Barbra I move in this magical, enchanted world... Just close your eyes ...

I think it might be a bit late for that, Ray. :)

I just realised the painting is representing Barbara as night and Doris as day.

Doris once remarked that Streisand was great with a big orchestra backing her or words to that effect.I think she was making a point about the differences in their respective styles: Barbra is a belter (less so nowadays) and Doris has a more intimate, one-to-one style of singing. The common ground is that both ladies are masters at acting through song - they tell a story - and you won't find any better examples than Doris performing Hey There in Pajama Game or Barbra singing My Man in Funny Girl. Both of them sang portions of those songs live instead of lip synching to a playback.

It's interesting to witness Streisand migrate to a more intimate style of singing as her voice has aged. Her interpretive skills are right up there with Doris, although I don't think she has Doris' innate gift for nimble phrasing and navigating shifts in tempo. Doris just seems a bit looser and freer to me, whereas Streisand is the queen of control. When she recorded her Love Is The Answer CD with Diana Krall and all of the tracks were recorded in the studio with a quartet of jazz musicians, Streisand had Johnny Mandel and others record orchestral arrangements to augment the sound and they eventually released two versions of the entire album.
