Renie, you are the winner. Julie was the other film in which Doris smoked, almost like a chimney. Webmaster provided the other two films that I am aware comprised the three films in which Doris smoked. Webmaster's avatar was the most obvious one, but I thought nobody would recall Doris smoking in Romance, but Webmaster diid. If I missed another "smoking" film, I will stand corrected. But again Renie since you are the winner, please post the next quiz question. Thanks all, and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Thanks. I'll think of another quiz question and will post it.

Meanwhile, here is some food for thought. I know the information you find on the internet can be unreliable.
Having said that, I found info that said Doris' characters smoked in these three movies: Young Man With A Horn; Love Me Or Leave Me; and Tea For Two. True??????

I thought of Julie, mostly because of the photos of her smoking off camera (below) but I couldn't remember if she smoked in the film?

Renie, I'll have to watch the three additional movies you mentioned to see if Doris smoked. I remember in LMOLM she did have a drink in front of her, but in Tea for Two, I doubt it. It is possible that Young Man might have a smoking scene. Thanks for the info, and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Hopefully, this next quiz question will not be too obscure for our webmaster, per his request.

Where was Doris Day's first paid singing job? Name the city and the establishment where she sang and who it was that found the job for her. The source I used for this information is one that should be well-known to any red-blooded honest-to-goodness Doris Day fan...even those who live in London! The only other hint I'll give you is that according to Doris, she was 15 years old when she was hired.

We're mostly blue-blooded in the UK, Renie.

A bit of research tells me that Doris' first job as a vocalist was on the WLW radio program Carlin's Carnival in Cincinnati (although she's also said to have sung at a local restaurant, Charlie Yee's Shanghai Inn).
No mention of who arranged the radio job for her - I'd go for her singing teacher, Grace Raine.

Fifteen sounds awfully young for those jobs, for 15 should we read 17?

Yes you are correct Bryan - especially in these early years, those "2 years" make sense- e.g. I always thought it strange [though not impossible] that Doris had married at 17 and had a baby - while this could have been, 19 does seem much more plausible.

For the most part, Bryan, you are correct with the quiz answers. It's all covered by Doris and A.E. Hotchner in her book, "Doris Day, Her Own Story." In my paperback version, it starts on page 37. While Doris did sing on Carlin's Carnival on WLW in Cincinnati, she was not paid for these sessions. Her first paying job was at Charlie Yee's Shanghai Inn in Downtown Cincinnati. She earned $5/session when she sang there on Saturday nights. Grace Raines' husband told Grace about the job being available and Grace told Doris. And, quoting Doris, herself, on page 38, "I was only 15, but I said I was eighteen and no one seemed to question it."

So, Bryan, take it away for the next quiz question.

Which award did Doris receive in January 2012?

I was going to ask 'Which of Doris' co-stars did she' become romantically involved with?'' but decided it might not be wise! :)

I watched Tea For Two today and there is a scene where Doris smokes. She is sitting in the yard talking to Gordon McCrae when he lights her cigarette and she takes one puff. Since smoking was so prominent in movies and life in general back in the day, I won't be surprised if we find more Doris Day movies in which she smokes.

Webmaster, in 2012 Doris Day received two awards. Her signature song "Que Sera, Sera" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Also in 2012 Miss Day was voted best actress by the Online Film & Television Assocation. Advise if I am the winner, in which case I have a quiz question that will require at least three thinking caps. Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Doris received the L.A. Film Critics' Ass'n. career achievement award in January, 2012.

If that's the answer you expected, Bryan, then I defer to whoever wants to pose the next question because I can't think of one right now.

I'd love to find this again - the ceremony from 2012 where DD phoned in and where acclaimed director Norman Jewison accepted the award on behalf of DD and talked about her genius. It was a fabulous tribute.

Webmaster, at you suggestion here is the next quiz question. You all will recall Oscar Levant's comment about knowing Doris Day before she was a virgin. On the Johnny Carson show with aired on 16 January 1976, Johnny brought up Levant's comment to which Doris Day stated in so many words--that she was "married in some of her films and her character had children, and if you can be a virgin and do that, how can that happen?" With the fact that Doris's character had children in some of her films, here are the quiz questions. How many children did Doris's character have in her films, how many were boys and how many were girls, and how many were hers or were adopted? The winner will have to answer all three questions. Have fun and a Happy Day, Texas Gonzalo

Here are my answers to the latest quiz:

Doris had a total of 22 children in her movies. 17 were boys and 5 were girls. One of the boys was adopted, in Tunnel of Love, and the other 21 were her biological children. Two more that didn't fit into a category: when she married Brian Keith in With Six You Get Eggroll, Doris became a step-mother to his daughter; and Doris became aware that she was pregnant right at the end of Tunnel of Love. She was a busy mom!

Fun question, Texas. The tally I get is 22 biological children (15 boys and 7 girls), plus 1 adopted son and 1 stepdaughter.

Renie and Musiclover, both of you are correct on all three questions. Renie you outdid yourself about Doris's character being pregnant at the conclusion of "Tunnel Of Love," hence you are the winner. Look forward to your next quiz question. Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo
