She looks like her own grandmother now :) but not bad for 96! And no make-up

I don't think it's a very good birthday photograph, I have to be honest. It looks like a snap of Doris somewhere in her house. :(

I wonder why people don't use their phones in landscape mode when they make a video?

Thanks, Peter. :)

New Closer Magaznine Cover Story 16 April 2018

Unread post by texas gonzalo » 08 Apr 2018, 23:22

The newest Closer Magazine just hit the newstands. The magaznine cover has two smiling photos of Miss Day. One is a gorgeous photo where her hand is toying with her pearl necklace and the other is a very recent photo with the caption Doris tells Closer: "I have no regrets!". The cover states Doris Day Turns 96 and is titled A Life Of Love, Loss & Laughter. The star opens up about overcoming her painful past, her secret to staying young and what she loves most about her fans.
The four page article begins with the phrase "Doris Day is as enamored with her fans as they are with her." The article talks about the bags and bags of fan mail the writer Ron Kelly witnessed in her garage. Miss Days states "I've been blessed with good health, wonderful pals, lovely fans and so many precious four-leggers. What more can I ask for?" There are also color photos of Doris with Jackie Joseph and Clint Eastwood. The article erroneously states that Doris made 42 films. But besides that, the article is very positive and also covers the most recent Bithday Celebration, to which Doris admits that she's never been much for birthday celebrations, so selflessly using hers for charity is the perfect way for her to connenct with her fans. "It means more to me thant I can say," she says of their generoristy and support year after year, "and I Love them all."
And we love you too! Enjoy and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Yes, thanks for that Texas.

Managed to find the cover - this is the US edition:

Links to Doris Day on Twitter: https://twitter.com/hashtag/DorisDay?src=hash

Me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/bryanjamesUK if anyone wants to link up, Michael Hadley is also on Twitter. I prefer it to Facebook - even though it's harder to get followers than friends on Facebook.
I don't say much about Doris on there, although I link to dorisday, net - mostly politics (Brexit) and other stuff, including films.

I'm on Twitter but not very active. I use it to follow the news, performers, and political commentators who interest me. Initially, I set up a Twitter account to promote my classic film blog, but I rarely update it anymore. I'd much rather post photos and comments on other sites than maintain my own.

Right now, I am dismayed at FB for allowing criminals to mine personal data to sway public opinion. But I won't let FB go because I have so many friends and family on it and I don't want to lose those connections. Instragram may be a better option going forward. It's more about photo sharing than grinding political axes, or so it seems.

Ah, social media ....

I agree Michael - am on all 3 - but my fav is FB and although they were very wrong- only good will come from all of this as the law is forced to catch up with advances in technology.

Thanks so much Peter for sharing the really enjoyable article by Jackie Joseph on Doris' birthday.

With Michael's Carmel diary, photos, and your Jackie Joseph article, I feel like I have attended Doris' 96th birthday.

Doris stating she is "floored", by fans travelling to Carmel to help her celebrate her birthday really explains her humility and kindness as the reasons her fans will always remain devoted.

Thanks again.

Peter, thank you for posting the delightful column by Jackie Joseph. She captured the spirit of the birthday celebration perfectly. It does feel a bit like being in the Emerald City when you spend time in beautiful Carmel with others who adore Doris and share a sincere passion for animal welfare. All of it stems from Doris Day and everyone puts their love of her and what she represents at the forefront.

Proud and grateful to have been a small part of it.

Michael.

Yesterday while browsing on Netflix I discovered Doris' delightful film Move Over Darling. Watching this bright and very funny romantic comedy makes me long for more films like this being made today.

I made a point of contacting family and friends to let them know about Move Over Darling.

Another extraordinary film on Netflix is Loving Vincent. It is an animated film about the tragic life of artist Vincent Van Gogh and his masterpieces. The colours and music in the film are spectacular.

Speaking of magazines, I was quite surprised with the special edition from CLOSER - "Celebrities and their Pets' which features Betty White, along with a couple other celebs on the cover, plus the whole edition filled with celebs and their pets including Elvis, many who have already passed, etc. The BIG SURPRISE, not one mention of DORIS DAY!!! Will be in touch with them, but found it off, of all stars to be left out of this special edition, that DORIS DAY, one of THE biggest animal lovers, etc., would not be in the magazine...will let you know what I learn.
Hope everyone has a great week...love the banners...nice to remember the good old days.
