Very nice, Jas, thanks for posting that I do like Tippi and as you point out, she is a passionate animal lover.

Thanks Michael & Jas.

Daniel Gelin, Doris Day and Alfred hitchcock on the set of 'The Man Who Knew Too Much'.

Who says Doris wasn't as big as The Beatles, Michael Jackson, etc?

IMDB:
"When Doris Day traveled to London to film some of the location scenes for this film, she was so popular with the British that when she arrived at her hotel, mobs of fans who had gotten word that she would be staying there had gathered. Pandemonium erupted when they saw her, and she needed a police escort to get in. Fans continued to surround the hotel, camping out, shouting her name, asking for autographs and hoping for a chance to see her. The hotel management finally had to ask her to leave."

Another lovely b&w banner- lovely pic of Doris.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Looking at this terrific banner reminds me of the great amount of behind-the-scenes work done by Director, Alfred Hitchcock and stars Doris Day and Daniel Gelin to get the brilliant results we see on the screen in the Man Who Knew Too Much.
It is a wonderful that holds up well fifty years later. I love these behind-the-scenes photos. They add so much appreciation and pleasure for the work when watching the film.
Thanks for such a thoughtful banner Bryan.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Thanks, Johnny. Doris does seem to be looking at Hitch intensively there. It seems to contradict her feelings that he wasn't involved in how the actors (she) performed.
But being that way is very English! Understatement rather than overstatement.

I love these banners from the MWKTM. Doris looks stunning as usual i love how she is so focused on Alfred Hitchcock and what he is saying. She is such an amazing actress and vocalist because of her ability to be intentional and focus on her work. I love seeing all the pictures featured on this forum. Bryan- re-Hitch's interaction- several stars have commented [as Doris did] that he did not get too involved in telling an actor how to do a scene- provided they were giving him what he wanted.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Great banner Bryan. and can you imagine in those days, how popular she was in England, and all over the world, but the UK did lead the way.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016

Yes, you're right there, Puck! Ditto with Jumbo (that's your image above on the left). I found it impossible to find a favourable review in the US. Such a shame as Doris and everyone else put so much into that film.
Although many individuals liked it:
http://overthehorizon-goldensails.blogs ... eview.htmlWhen Doris Day and her husband, Martin Melcher, decided to do this movie they were hoping it would be just the thing to get them back in the spotlight. Unfortunately, though the sets were big, the music well written, and parts well played, the movie didn't make what they hoped it would. Because of it Doris Day lost parts in The Unsinkable Molly Brown and The Sound of Music. I can't say I really understand why, since this movie is obviously one of my favourites, but I don't think their trouble had anything to do with being a big time musical.
Something I just recently learned, but wasn't surprised to find out, was that Stephen Boyd's singing voice was dubbed. He does such a good job lip-synching that no one would know. I wonder if he could sing but they didn't give him the chance. Strange as it seems, it happens sometimes.
The songs in this movie are to die for. I adore Doris Day's music anyway, but Over and Over Again, My Romance, Little Girl Blue, and Stardust and Spangles are wonderfully orchestrated and performed, as well as the rest of the music. I find them on Grooveshark and listen to them when I want to sing.

True, Jas, but he was a man of contradictions. Some female stars he obsessed over, didn't he?

Yes Bryan, but not so much in the performance as off the screen.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Thank you Bryan, I wish she did " The Sound of Music" or " he Unsinkable Molly brown", she was perfect for those roles, it's a pity that the producers didn't want her to do the parts.
But she did great in "Jumbo", she give all she got in that part, and did it very well, as also, just like every roles she did play, she gave it all. She always want to be perfect, that is Doris, a amazing lady.

Lovely Jumbo banner -DD with my Countryman -SB was actually very near to me, within the same County.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Thanks, Jas. He's an interesting character - or was - he was great in Jumbo - he and Doris were a believable couple, I think.
Puck thought that the last one wasn't one of her best so will do another one of hers soon.
Here's one I really enjoyed doing and, as Johnny said, brought back a lot of memories of watching Jumbo, a lovely film with a great performance from Doris and the rest of the cast:

(Only with Doris could you go from a Hitchcock thriller to a full-blown MGM musical!

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Thanks Peter. It's good to revisit it! It's now out on Blue-Ray, This is one of the reviews I read:
Gorgeous Blu-ray! By TJK
This is one of the last hurrahs from the great MGM musical dream factory. It is a lovely period musical with a wonderful Rodgers and Hart score. I have enjoyed this movie over my entire lifetime. While some movies dim after repeated viewings and maturity, Jumbo remains among my all time favorites. The production, music arrangements and direction keep this looking fresh. Doris Day gives one of her best performances and provides her most intimate interpretations of these standards. The blu-ray transfer looks spectacular! Thank you, Warner Archive! Please keep the great color musicals coming out in blu-ray!
