Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Great banner Bryan! Ive asked myself that very same question many times Whats going on?
I know for a lot of people its hard to understand the gun issue. Im from the south but never had much exposure to guns. My dad does have one for protection. But it seems to me that guns in the hands of the wrong person has become a huge problem in this country and there needs to be more stringent background checks and no one needs an assault weapon period. I am definitely all for protecting yourself and your family, but i am not for hurting innocent people becsuse i believe that ALL LIVES MATTER!

Lovely Caprice banner.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Thanks, Jas. And thanks, Tybear, nicely put. It just seems to be one thing after another these days.
Here's a lovely photo of Doris from Puck to cheer us up:

Below is the original Puck sent but I thought I'd just use one image for now.

Very cute banner, Puck. This photo is new to me.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Me too, Judy. Obviously a car park - wonder if it's at Warner Brothers?
Although Doris is dressed and made-up to 'go out', so perhaps it has nothing to do with WB?

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Because of the palm trees and the car rental building behind her, I don't think the photo had anything to do with Warners. It just looks like a parking lot in a commercial area somewhere in southern California.

I'm sure you're right, I was just thinking out loud..
I found out the photographer was a Frank Smith - that's all I could find:

Thanks Puck - hope you had a good holiday.
Let's forget all the problems in the world for a minute - here's a slice of old Hollywood with Doris and the great Esther Williams - with their husbands in tow!

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Very nice banner, Bryan. It seems so odd to see Doris wearing a fur, although I think this photo was taken (probably in 1953-54) more than a decade before she became such an outspoken advocate for the anti-fur campaign. If I'm not mistaken, Esther Williams noted in her memoir that Ben Gage took advantage of her financially during their marriage -- to the tune of millions of dollars. Hmmmmm. Sounds like these two couples might have had something in common.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Also Debbie Reynolds with Harry Karl (1960–1973), Judy. Probably many more..
I think furs were seen differently in those days, obviously.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Oh Bryan you can't have everything.
Doris looked older in the early fifties. She got prettier as the years rolled on. She should have grabbed that fur and perm and ran from Mr Melcher!

Great banner Bryan! It goes without saying i love Doris but i also think Esther Williams was a fine actress. I love this forum it definitely is an escape from all that is happening in the world today. It takes us back to a simpler time where there was less violence and there was more respect for each other and a higher value was placed on human life. Thank you so much Bryan for this amazing forum and all the awesome members. Proud and honored to be a part. Thanks for the opportunity.

Thanks Tybear, it's people like you who make the forum special - and, thankfully, there are quite a few of us.
I can't believe how scary the world is getting - with so many parts of it you don't want to go to now because you might get shot, blown up, run over, attacked with an axe on a train, etc.
I wonder what Doris makes of it all? I read she takes a keen interest in politics and the news and listens to the radio a lot. I'll bet she's glad she had her career during the more innocent times you mention - certainly there was a lot less general violence and fundamentalism, the scourge of our time.
I often wonder, if there is a God, why doesn't he intervene? Surely enough is enough - is he waiting for us all to destroy ourselves?

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Thanks Bryan, But don't say I am a treasure so lets bury him!
Doris has a deep faith and we have to hold onto that faith knowing whatever there will be the peace created for all of us. A nun that lives in my building says its the end times. We just have to somehow stay strong. God bless us all,

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
I so agree that it is even more special than at any time to be able to look into this wonderful utopia of DD and talents and characters. Thank you Bryan and let's try and stay positive in these very difficult times.
Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016

And yes I did have a wonderful Holiday, wish I could life there, but, Que Sera, Sera it's just what it is.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Youre right Bryan, i read that Doris does take an interest in politics. I know shes smart and wants to stay informed about whats going on in the world. And im sure youre right in thinking that shes probably very grateful that she had a wonderful career when the world was a happier place. Thank you for your kind words also. It is certainly my great pleasure to be able to actively participate in this wonderful forum.
I know in my heart that God exist but man has a choice and unfortunately we have made very bad choices in how we treat each other. I wish we could choose love over hate the world would be a much safer place to live if we could all learn to accept others as they are.

Re: Doris Day Forum Banners 2016
Thanks Puck. And thanks Ray and Tybear - hope you are both right!
And Jas, about keeping positive, I should probably listen to less 24-hour news. I tend to have it on in the background when I'm working, a bit like a radio, so I'm getting all the bad news repeated to me all day.
Yesterday I went to the park and enjoyed the sunshine (we've got a heatwave in the UK right now) and I forgot all the world's problems!
Here's a banner I made from a photo Ania posted - thank Ania!
Forget she's wearing a fur stole for now - it was a long time ago.
