I'd have to agree with you both - unsurprisingly! :)

For me it was first her films and soon after her records - I loved the way she did film hits like Teacher's Pet, etc and then would do great albums such as Cuttin' Capers, which I think was the first album of hers I had that my poor parents had to endure repeated listenings to!

My father liked Jim Reeves so there was a bit of payback for hearing the sound of Distant Drums so often! :) But I think it was ultimately finding out about her as a person that rekindled my interest and got me hooked again.

Doris looks so radiant and happy in this banner, the photo looks like it is from the1956-57 period.

President Bush is right, Doris will always be America's sweetheart. We know she is ours! Doris makes the world look brighter.

Thank you!

The Love Me or Leave Me banner of Doris standing in front of the ballroom with suitcase in hand is compelling. Looking at this banner, there are so many interesting details. The expressions on Doris' and James faces. The Wham Girl poster, the 8 piece orchestra, Chicago's Foremost Ballroom signage in black and white is dramatic. In the left top corner is the number 30 which at first glance. I foolishly thought it read as 3D. This banner is near the top of my all-time favouites.
Thank you Bryan.

Thanks - there's something about black and white, isn't there - particularly after you've been looking at a lot of colour images - so I know what you are saying, Johnny. What occurs to me sometimes is how different Doris looks in films, particularly the dramatic ones, compared to the 'off duty' shots: all freckles and toothy-smiles! I have to do a double-take sometimes: is this the same woman?! I guess it shows how good an actress she is.

Here's another in the same vein:

Another great [dramatic] banner - Ruthie liked her perfumes lol - I so wish that extended rape [deleted] scene could be unearthed and added to the film.

I love all of the Love Me Or Leave Me banners Bryan. I really like the black and white photos, it adds a more dramatic effect. I think Doris was in her dramatic roles as she was in comedy films. I can never say enough about how wonderful Doris was as an actress, singer and all round entertainer. Her talent cant be measured . Thanks for everything you do for the members of this wonderful forum.

This is a particularly powerful Love Me or Leave Me Banner. James Cagney's character Marty is pointing at his chest tell Doris'Day's character, Ruth, what he has done for her. Doris (Ruth) literally turns her back on him.
All the details from the pearls, dress, and perfume in the photograph enhances the scene.

The strongest impression in the photograph is in
the look on Doris's face. This is a look we rarely see in her films. The look encompasses hurt, anger, defiance and contempt. There is also the look that is analytical asking how she is going to handle Marty.

Thanks Bryan for such an interesting banner.

I love this banner and this film "Please Do not Eat The Daisies" is probably the most famous film in Poland with Doris... Wonderful banner, simply fantastic!

Fantastic banner from the movie "Love Me or Leave Me"!

Please Don't Eat The Daisies looks like the film that comes closest to who Doris is as a mother in her real life. It has been written that It Happened To Jane represented Doris best as she is in her real life.
This Doris Daisies banner is incredibly charming.
Thank you Bryan.

Yes, I love this film too! Doris plays it understated and is very believable. It's the sort of film that someone who wasn't a Doris Day fan would enjoy because she blends in so nicely and isn't 'the star' here (although she is! :) )

I have always wished Gregory Peck would have played the David Niven part in Please Don't Eat The Daisies. I would have liked to see Doris' chemistry with Gregory. They both have warm personalities. He has a charisma that David lacks.
Other actors that may have been suited for the part are Paul Newman, William Holden and Jeff Chandler. I think they would have been great partners with Doris.

Gregory Peck would have been interesting - or Jack Lemmon, Cary Grant, even Tony Curtis.

But I must admit I liked David Niven!

Would have loved to have seen Doris with Gregory Peck or Paul Newman- or Burt Lancaster [although he had a reputation for being difficult and this may not have gone down too well with DD].

'Anyway the Wind Blows', the song performed here, was the one Marty wanted in Pillow Talk and also wanted it to be the title for Pillow Talk. Luckily he didn't succeed as his motivation seemed to be to promote the song, which he must have had some financial interest in, knowing his reputation!

Hi all,

Love this film, made a beautiful post yesterday, but it got lost loading up. And I can't really think how I got started. Came across this quote by Janis Paige on Doris:
“I thought she was great, like everybody else,” says Paige, who co-starred in Day’s film debut, Romance On the High Seas (1948). “She was so good, right off the bat. She had that fantastic voice and we had a fantastic score. It’s Magic came from that picture.”

Love the apartment, the house, the fashions, the cast. David Niven is fine for me. Love it that he worked with other great stars as well.

Janis Paige provided the spice in Please Don't Eat The Daisies. I loved her gracious comments about working with Doris.
Polly Bergen also spoke about how wonderful Doris was to work with in Move Over Darling.

That's a pain when that happens, Peter, sometimes hitting the back button can find it. And if it's long post, copy it before you submit it.
