On August 16, 1945 (the day after V-J Day), Doris and the Les Brown Band began a 3-week engagement at the Hollywood Palladium. Given her later feelings about singing in front of an audience, it's hard to realize that sell-out crowds at the Palladium -- of which there were many -- numbered about 6,000.

On August 21, 1950, Doris and the Page Cavanaugh Trio recorded "Orange Colored Sky," which Nat King Cole had also recorded just a few days earlier. (Several other singers also recorded the song, with Cole's being the biggest hit of all.)

Now it will go through my mind for days, thanks a lot.
"I was walkin' along, drinkin' in sunshine..
when out of an orange-colored sky..
Flash, bam, alakazam.. wonderful you came by.
One look and I yelled Timber! -- watch out for flying glass --
Then the _____ and the _____
This is IT, I've been HIT" (or words to that effect)
Mst be on YouTube and/or Lyrics blah blah

On August 27, 1946, Doris made her last appearance at the Hollywood Palladium with Les Brown as her boss. (It was not the last time she and Brown would perform together, though, as both would later become employees of Bob Hope.)
