Beautiful banner- we don't see Doris with cats often enough.

I love the officially released pic this year (much better than last year) - Doris looks really great - I hope she continues to be well.

Grateful we got an official photo this year. Doris appears to be doing well and she has a solid team surrounding her. I'm sure the love she receives from the fans and their support of her animal foundation means a lot to her.

How many other stars have amassed the kind of devoted following that Doris has? How many other stars have nearly 150 people make an annual pilgrimage to their balcony to sing Happy Birthday?

She stands apart from everyone else.

I just posted the photo and his comments on the 97th Birthday thread. I wasn't sure where to post it since the birthday thread has moved around a few times.

What a lush and colorful banner! This is simply beautiful. Puts me an Easter mood right away. Bring on the egg dye and the Easter Egg hunt.

Thank you Ania and Bryan!

Thanks, Michael and Peter. :)

Yes, I think that is one of Puck's best. As Pillow Talk was shown as part of her birthday celebrations, it seemed a natural next banner. I didn't realise it was it's 60th Anniversary until I read it.

To think that Doris will be 100 years old in three years is also amazing!

Other centenarians in the entertainment business are Dame Olivia de Havilland (102), Kirk Douglas (102), Marsha Hunt (101), Norman Lloyd (104). Not too many
George Abbott lived to 107 and George Burns to 100.

Doris's former boss, Bob Hope, also lived to 100. Maybe humor plays a part in longevity.

Comedian George Burns lived to be 100.

Phyllis Diller who was a big Doris Day fan lived to age 95.

There appears to be a connection between longevity and having a sense of humour.

Puck is a lot younger!

But I loved Jane Powell in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!

I wonder what Doris would have done with that role? Would love to have seen her in it. :)

Another one from Puck - Film of the Month: Calamity Jane:

Image

‘Doris Day rides the Deadwood stage across the screen and into our hearts’ – BBC Radio Times

"In 1953, over at 20th Century Fox, a big musical was in production. It was called Gentlemen Prefer Blondes starring Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe, two of the leading glamour girls of the day. Across town at Warner Brothers, Doris Day was donned in buckskins, boots and a scout cap, perched atop a stagecoach, singing her head off and dancing up a volcanic storm in another important musical called Calamity Jane."

Image

"Doris Day reported that she and Howard Keel sang live while filming I Can Do Without You! It is a great number filled with physicality and one-upmanship. Calamity Jane was an excellent vehicle to launch Miss Day’s career into the stratosphere, for it catapulted her to new heights among the greatest of stars. She performed with such gusto, that one film critic said, ‘By picture’s end, she is within hailing distance of Ginger Rogers and Judy Garland’. But in the opinion of this reviewer, she not only caught up with them, she passed them both!" - Ralph McKnight

Calamity Jane affirmed Doris' status as one of Hollywood's top musical stars. She played the title character, she sang most of the songs, and she was the box-office draw. The larger than life character was different than anything she had played before, aside from the Tomboyish qualities were similar to Marjorie in the Moonlight Bay / Slivery Moon musicals. Still, this was set in the wild west and the role was far more robust and athletic. And she was playing a legendary character. Big boots to fill and Doris filled them with ease. I love this movie. It is pure joy from start to finish and it stands the test of time.
