Re: Forum Banners 2019
Hi Simon,
Thanks for you comments about the David Hartman interviews and good to know that I was able to point you to something you hadn't seen before. I learnt something too, in that David Hartman was also an actor and had been in "The Ballad of Josie'" with Doris. It does go a long way to explain why he appears to be so relaxed in Doris' company.
In your last paragraph you raise an interesting question about the source of these interviews. I have just glanced through the 4 parts again and I can see what you mean. There is nothing to link each part with the previous, or following part. At the beginning of Part 1 David introduces the interview and says he visited Doris at her home in Carmel last week. There is no corresponding intro for Parts 2 and 4. The location for parts 1,2 and 4 appears to be the same, and since Doris is wearing the same outfit in each, they were probably made at the same time. Part 3 is the odd one out in that the location seems to be different (although it could just be another room or camera angle) and she is wearing a different outfit. Maybe they had to do it that way to fit in with Rock's schedule. Another clue is that David gives an introduction to this part and says virtually the same thing as he did for Part 1.
Reading the Wikipedia entry about David Hartman it says he was the co-host of 'Good Morning America' from 1975-1987. Reading further it tells us that 'he professionally conducted more than 12,000 interviews during his time on the show'. 1983 is just over halfway through this time, so perhaps he did the interviews with Doris for 'Good Morning America'? I totally agree with you that we don't have the complete interview(s) in the four parts on YouTube.
Being from Europe, my knowledge of American TV shows like 'Good Morning America' in the 1980s is non-existent. Since there was no Internet in 1983, I think most Europeans would be in the same situation. Perhaps Johnny or Michael or Mary Anne can throw some light on this for us?

Re: Forum Banners 2019
Hi Robert,
You are correct. David Hartman hosted Good Morning America when he conducted the series of interviews with Doris. They were shown over a consecutive four day period in March 1983. I believe this was her first televised interview since 1976 when she was promoting her book. Indeed, the rapport that he had with Doris no doubt stemmed from the time they worked together on Josie.
Her trust and comfort level with him is obvious and she seems very relaxed, a far cry from her guarded exchanges with Barbara Walters and Mike Douglas.
The GMA interview was heavily promoted and everyone was excited to see her with Rock again. It was thrilling (and still is) to see the two of them together on that sofa. My memory isn’t as reliable as it once was, but I believe the four parts on You Tube are the same as the original broadcast versions.
Thank you for your positive reaction to the second video. I was particularly pleased that you noticed the timing of the ending. Not everyone picks up on those details but it was carefully edited and I’m delighted you noticed it. Make Someone Happy is one of my all time favorite songs and it seemed like the perfect choice to underscore the montage at the end.
Happy Easter and Passover to everyone!
Michael

Thanks Bryan and Puck for the Doris Easter banner.
It radiates joy.
Thank you Bryan for asking.
Films , Music , reading , some writing , occupy my time. Also trying to support family and friends who find this time a challenging altered state that seems like the Twilight zone. Thankfully the spring robins have returned and the sparrows chatter every morning.
I am holding fast to dreams of going out to the movies again , having dinner with family and friends in a restaurant , and walking in the park. I hope we have a new appreciation for these everyday events that will make them seem extraordinary. Most of all my wish is we all wake up thankful each day for feeling well.
Be well.

Re: Forum Banners 2019
Happy Easter to everyone!
Bryan and Puck, thanks from me too for the latest banner! Doris looks really happy there with her basket of eggs. I also like the shade of blue she's wearing.
Michael, thanks very much for the interesting information about David Hartman.
Right now I should be on the plane back from San Francisco to Dublin after two weeks in Los Angeles and Carmel, but that will have to wait for another time. I'm grateful that the whole thing was cancelled by someone else, because I'm fairly sure that if it had still been possible to travel, I would have taken the risk. I don't want to even think about the consequences of that.
I bought myself an Easter egg last week so I'm going to eat some of that now and maybe look out for David Hartman in "The Ballad of Josie"!
Stay safe and enjoy your Sunday.

Thanks for asking. I'm doing OK, but being indoors all the time is even beginning to get to me a bit. I'm quite used to being on my own, so I can't imagine how it must be for people who are used to socialising and going out regularly.

I believe the location is Paradise Cove in Malibu.
And yes I think that’s Gig Young in the background.
Love this feel good, homespun musical drama. It never fails to move me.

Re: Forum Banners 2019
I recently uploaded this video to You Tube and shared it across several Doris Day Fan Pages on Facebook in the interest of introducing it to a wider audience. The timing felt right because we're all staying home and a little escape into Doris Day Land never hurts. Many of you have already viewed it but there may be a few new members who have not. The video highlights her beginnings as a band singer in Cincinnati, her success on radio, her transition into film stardom and her accomplished recording career.
My sincere thanks to the fans and forum members who participated by sharing their photos, news clippings and personal reflections about her vocal artistry.

It was an honor, Michael, to have participated in my small way, to this excellent documentary. It should be required viewing for any Doris fan. You will love it - guaranteed!

Re: Forum Banners 2019
Thank you Bryan for this Young at Heart Doris banner. I love the behind the scenes photos. They give a new appreciation for the work that is put into the film.
I love the hues of blue, yellow , pink , the sand and water that are so uplifting. Doris looks so relaxed as her hair is being fixed.
It is a warm and beautiful scene. Just what we need during this time of isolation.
Stay well everyone.

Thank you Michael for posting the Doris Day: Long Ago and Far Away video. There is so much to appreciate.
I love hearing her voice speaking about her band experiences and in particular the song Sentimental Journey. The music is enthralling.
The photos are spectacular. Seeing all the childhood photos of Doris was an emotional experience. Her story is so beautifully told.
Listening to Doris sing is one of life's great pleasure. I feel such a strong connection to her music. The intimacy in her voice touched my soul.
This video is a true work of love and a genuine treasure. Thank you again Michael for your caring artistry and sharing this beautiful work.
Stay well.

I'm fine, Michael, thanks for thinking about me. Just feeling a bit low in energy. I think this about my sixth week of 'not going out' and days and hours seem to run into one another so life takes on a dream-like quality. I check the forum every day - looks like I'm not the only one falling asleep! We do some Zoom video meet-ups with friends and I try and keep in touch with others via email, texting, etc. Seems there is still a long way to go...
Will do a new banner soon!
