I just got the Bear Family Set "It's Magic" incl. the book via Ebay UK - And that including postage for a price that is only half what I would have to pay over here.
Marion, congratulations on getting such a deal! That is terrific~ All the Bear Family Doris sets are awesome and essential for any fan.
Babe, I can't believe how well you do on the song initials game without owning the Bear Family sets. Just amazing! And, yes, you need to get all four sets!

I just received my 3 sets of the Bear Family recordings! I haven't yet listened to the music but have paged through the books. They are just beautiful and such a tribute to Doris (I wonder if she owns them???) I found mine on e-bay and got the three sets (brand new) for $305.00. I think that was a pretty good price. Now I know where all of you got your photos to post on the forum
I just found an article in a German newspaper on how two little German music labels are working in the light of the crisis of the music industry - One of them the Bear Family.
I found it quite interesting - Here is the first part of the text about the Bear Family, translated by Google, so please excuse any mistakes. (I corrected the worst mistakes, sorry for the rest):
Author: CHRISTOPH DALLACH
OPEN YOUR EYES AND GO
How to muddle through the crisis in the music industry? With idealism and cleverness, like two small labels show.
In Vollersode, where the record company Bear Family Records resides on a former farm, the only sounds to be heard are tractors on the dirt tracks or cows walking out to their pasture. The cracking of the collabsing music industry is not to be heard here. On this farm not a soul cares about piracy networks, MP3 files, flat rates and other enemies of the CD sales charts, about 40 km northeast of Bremen.
Here Richard Weize sets the tone, a 62-year-old, who in his as massive jeans dungarees, bleached T-shirt, grey beard and pony tail would not be noticed on a ranch in Texas. Weize does straight talking. Then he suddenly rumbles, that everything is "stupid" and that one has to be "crazy" to do this job. Even Johnny Cash had to put up with this tone, when Weize gave him a dressing down on the phone because he hadn't sent a CD text in. The text came very fast....
The Bear Family sets are essentiel for any Doris fan. The represent the totallity of her solo recorded output, less a couple of alternate takes that they missed. And the books that come with them are incredible. But they are expensive.
Sad to hear that there is no one to take over for Weize when he goes. He really did a lot to ensure certain artists' legacies were put out for all to hear. He really did kick start the renaissance of Doris' music on cd. Long before Sony started releasing anything but the same old compilations.

The prices can vary from site to site, and even vary on Amazon from time to time, so comparative shopping is a must to make sure that you don't overpay. (I picked the links to the cheapest prices on Amazon for each set at the time, but they could change.)

Well, if I had to choose, I'd go with Move Over Darling first, as it has so many GREAT albums in it: Duet, Latin For Lovers, Sentimental Journey, Christmas Album, etc. So many masterpieces in that collection.
Then I'd go to Que Sera, which has a tremendous number of masterpieces as well: Hooray For Hollywood, Day By Day and Day By Night, etc.
And then either of the other two in either order.
