Hi Everybody,
There is an important poll on NPR( public radio in the US) regarding the 50 greatest voices.
Although more than 1600 posts have been posted, Doris hasn't been mentioned more than 10 times. All her contemporaries like Rosemary Clooney, Frank sinatra, Peggy Lee, Mel Torme, not to mention Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday, are nominated much, much more than Doris.
So let's show that Doris is not forgotten and should be considered as one of the Great voices.
Here's the link. You have to register first.

Re: NPR Greatest Vice Poll
Thanks for the update Velda. But let me suggest you correct the spelling for the story thread to read "voices". You might scare some people off.

Re: NPR Greatest Voice Poll
Did I really write 'vice' ? Too funny. Thanks for the correction, Bryan. I hope everyone is voting for Doris.
The movie is 96% done. Needs more tweaking. I got a young guy to edit it. He's quite good. I'm planning a fundraising/ Doris Day tribute/ movie showing evening. I'll give you more details when I get the plan in motion.

I nominate Doris Day. She's made tons of records outside of her well-know film hits, many of them jazz and blues influenced as in the early big band recordings. When not making film music, she recorded with the likes of Andre Previn - a partnership that produced the sublime "Duet", in which Doris shows she's up there with Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald. She also, like her peers Frank Sinatra, (listen to the under-rated film music from "Young at Heart") Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, etc, tackled all the standards and she made some top albums such as "Hooray for Hollywood", "I Have Dreamed", "Cuttin Capers", "Latin for Lovers", "Day by Day", "Day By Night", and so on.
Her musical talent has been somewhat overshadowed by her popular appeal and identification as 'the girl next door', star of "Pillow Talk", "Calamity Jane", with "Que Sera, Sera" as her signature tune.
Peel back the image and you'll find a different Doris Day - and one well worthy of being in the top fifty.

Re: NPR Greatest Voice Poll
I had voted for Doris long before Velda's very considerate message turned up on the forum. I hope everyone will take a moment to vote for Doris.
