Did Doris and Dinah Shore ever record a song together?

I thought i knew every song Doris has recorded and have all her records and cd's. In September I was downsizing my record\cd collection. None of them were Doris' songs. I came across an old 78 record and saw that the artist was Doris Day. I put the record on an old turntable and listened. It was the novelty song, How Lovely Cooks The Meat. It was from around 1951 or 52. It relly surprised me.

Regardless of the quality of the song, Doris sounded wonderful. She always gave it her all. I found out that the reocrd was purchased by my brother, Robert. Laughingly he said, "I want it back" " I love her".

Don't we al!?

Fifty years later and Doris still makes us smile.

Its raining Doris!! She is everywhere! From the Sinatra upcoming radio program to Mo Town. Berry Gordy so cherished Doris that he wrote a song for her and finally presented it to her in 1993. The new musical Motown even has a singer playing Doris singing the song.

To set the record a little straight:
The Doris & Dinah song you mentioned was the flip side of what was the hit side, "IT'S BETTER TO CONCEAL THAN REVEAL". As for the meat song, she recorded that with Frankie Laine...again, it was the flip side of the bigger hit, "Sugarbush", which reached the Top Ten in both the US and the UK. (It was #1 on our jukeboxes as well!)
Just when we think we have found everything we think there is, something else surfaces. I keep looking!

I love discovering new things that Doris has done that I've never known about, and this song is one of them, I think I need to invest in some cds from the Les Brown era of her music, which is rapidly becoming my favorite music of Doris Day.

She would have been 15 or 17 when she sang this! Depending on what birth year you believe in

This is one of the earliest recordings from Doris. She recorded this with Barney Rapp and his New Englanders on June 17,1939. In her book she states that she tried out for his band at the age of 16. She was chosen from around 200 singers. Rapp had been touring the country and decided to open a club in Cincinnati - The Sign of the Drum. Before this, Doris had sung on the radio on Carlin's Carnival and in a chinese restaurant -- while she was still on crutches recovering from her car-train collision that ended her dancing career. Rapp had heard Doris on the radio, called her voice coach and set up an audition. Rapp is also responsible for giving Doris the name Doris Day. He said he couldn't fit Kappelhoff on the marquee - so he suggested Day for the song she sang - Day After Day.

You are most welcome Jas. I was trying to locate the audtion song Doris did for WLW, Can't Help Loving That Man from Showboat. Heard it on Nancy for Frank from the Sirius Radio interview Nancy Sinatra did with Doris Day. Amazing to hear that rarity, but alas, cannot locate it anywhere. I think Michael, you are correct in thinking that Doris may own that recording. Hopefully it can be released somehow!
