Backstory of recording "Sentimental Journey"
Just read the transcript of an interview with Les Brown's brother, Stumpy, who was the band's manager for 50 years, including the time when Doris was its female vocalist. He recounted to the interviewer, jazz historian Gene Lees, that the band was playing in Boston in mid-November of 1944 and took an overnight train back to New York City to record "Sentimental Journey" the next morning at the Liederkranz Hall. I always wondered in which studio the song's first recording was made . . . and now I know. (There are some good photos online of both the exterior and interior of that studio.)

Hi Judy,
That's a great find. Is the story online?
Love to read Stumpy's story.

Peter, this recollection from Stumpy is from the second half of a really long 2-part interview with Les Brown that you can see at jazzprofiles.blogspot.com.
