Hi Peter: I discontinued posting because it seemed as if the last recordings had already been released. I thought perhaps I had run out of rare goodies. But, I'll list the remainder of songs I had planned to submit. Here they are - let me know if they're worth posting here:

WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO?
I'M GLAD I WAITED FOR YOU
MAYBE
THIS HEART OF MINE
SLEIGH RIDE IN JULY
IT HAD TO BE YOU (LES BROWN RECORDING)
IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU (DITTO)
MY LOST HORIZON
ONCE OVER LIGHTLY
THE JOINT IS REALLY JUMPIN'
IS IT LOVE OR IS IT CONSCRIPTION?

Dear Howard,

I'm always glad with your contributions!!! And yes I have had most of them (and some jet, because I'm hunting) … There must be other fans that don't… And I know there are more people around, that read the website posts but don't post by them self. Don't know why… I'm posting a lot, with the most terrible use of your language/English and everybody seems to understand what I mean. And if not, I hope they will respond.

If possible I'd like to hear: IS IT LOVE OR IS IT CONSCRIPTION? I only have a small part with talking through it. Found it years back in one of the television programs. Don't recall at the moment which (could be It's Magic)

Here it is, Pete. By the way, your English is fine.

This version of the song does contain a bit of dialogue up front, and some at the end, but I believe the song is intact:

Hi Howard,

Thanks for looking and making this file, it's the same part I have found. Hope to find this complete Soundie too. It must be somewhere in the vaults.

I find it a little strange that people are keeping this kind of recordings/files and information hidden. Now the people who are interested are still around to listen, in a few (50+) years from now, probably the files are lost because no one cares. And they will be lost forever.

For instance. The Bob Hope files on 16" inch records are all donated to a library. They are there in the vaults. People who make request a long time before visiting can listen to some of the records. In a 40 years from now, there wont be many people around who remember Bob Hope. If these records aren't transferred. And the equipment (16"inch record players are lost) we will never be able to hear the sounds again. That will also happen to cd's etc. So if we want to preserve, we have to transfer the old files, to the now systems, so they will be easier to transfer to systems we have to use in the future.

Maybe they wont be interesting for the future. But if they aren't available, they can't be useful.

Well I'm doing my best to keep the Doris Day radio legacy alive as long as I can, and I enjoy any minute of it. Met online some very nice and interesting people along the journey. And it is still an amazing trip, hope to continue to meet/speak and find new material and people.

Peter, I so appreciate your efforts to keep alive the legacy of Doris's vocal work.

Howard, it would be great if you could post "Maybe." As far as I can determine, the first radio broadcast of Doris with Les Brown that has been preserved included this song.

Peter,

I just want to echo what Judy said about your efforts to keep her musical legacy alive. That is important if we want future generations to appreciate her vast catalog of recordings. In Doris' case, there doesn't seem to be anyone in her family or her estate who would take the lead on something like this.

Howard, thanks to you for sharing these rare gems with us. You are so organized and thorough in everything you do. Your contributions are greatly valued.

Howard, where in the world did you find this priceless gem--"Maybe"? This recording originated from The Glen Island casino in New Rochelle, New York and was broadcast on 25 October 1940. What a magnificent find. It is the first recording Doris Day made with Les Brown and His Orhcestra. Thanks a million for sharing, and Happy Days. Texas Gonzalo

Thanks for posting "Maybe," Howard. Can't think of another 18-year-old singer, before or since, who had the vocal chops Doris did at that age.

This is the information I have from that first show.
1940 – 10 – 25 Les Brown and His Orchestra (NBC)
From: Glen Island casino, New Rochelle, New York
With: Doris Day, Ronnie Chase
Music: Les Brown & His Band Of Renown
1. Shangri La
2. Maybe - Doris Day#
3. I'd Know You Anywhere - Ronnie Chase
4. One Nighter Blues
5. Afterthought - Ronnie Chase
6. Harlem Nocturne
7. There I Go - Doris Day#
8. Blue Donau Waltz
9. Exactly Like You

And this is how it sounds:

Peter, thank you for posting the entire Glen Island casino broadcast from 25 October 1940. This having been a live radio station remote, I am curious as to how the audio was captured for us to hear it more than 78 years later. Was the broadcast later transcribed to a disc? But in any event thank you again for sharing and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Hi Texas,

I found it as it is on the internet in a collection. Don't know how it survived all these years, but probably it's been recorded on disc or tape in 1940.
